A great family holiday

Having read a large number of negative reviews about the MSC Armonia, I really was not looking forward to the holiday. I came back today and can honestly say that the holiday was great. Travelling with 2 teenage children, the cruise certainly offered value for money. Everyone moans about paying for water, but purchasing a bottle at the dinner table really wasn't going to break the bank. Free water is available day and night up on deck. My only moan would be the suggested tip at the end 180 euros! I don't think I'm a mean person but that is wrong - I adjusted it downwards. The cabin was snug (with 2 teenagers) but clean and used only for sleeping - actually come to think of it, a brilliant power shower. The food was great and that's coming from a fussy vegetarian. The waiter couldn't be more accommodating and generally arranged for us to have whatever we wanted. Yes, the translation does become boring but hey - it is an Italian cruise liner after all, so use it as an excuse to brush up on your French, German, Italian and Spanish! No need to take any of the excursions, we found plenty to occupy us by walking straight off the ship. Previous reviews suggest that the staff are moody - I didn't really have much to do with the staff apart from our waiter who was brilliant and Bulgarian. Overall, you get what you pay for and from previous experience, it is comparable with British cruise liners, so don't be put off.
Quality of Food4
A brilliant selection throughout the day. Food was always hot and well presented.
Entertainment5
The main shows were very professional (in La Fenice lounge). The classical concerts in particular were good. My 12 year old daughter loved the dancers and we all thought the pianist and violinist were amazing. Didn't go to any other entertainment as the translation was slightly painful.
Shore Excursions3
Didn't take any. Made our own way around on foot.
Staff5
The waiter couldn't do enough for us (Alex from Bulgaria if you come across him).
Children's Facilities3
My teenagers were not that fussed on joining in on the games and activities. So can't really comment. Lots of clubs for younger children though.
Onboard Activities2
Be prepared to play monopoloy in italian (quite challenge). Days at sea, without the sun can be slightly long so take plenty of board games and books.
Cabins5
Excellent - brilliant shower and always cleaned.

We are due to go on the Armonia on 16 August on Northern Europe Cruise and, like you, I have heard all sorts of moaning about this and that! How lovely to read your review and it fills me with confidence that we shall have a good time with our 14 year old teenager in tow. We are not difficult to please and been on the Ocean Village and Grand Princess before - all on which folk moaned. It must be a British thing to pick holes in everything!!!! We also do our own trip ashore. Only this time we have booked a trip at St Petersburg. Can't wait and will write a review on return.

a really genuine cruise review - I think i was on the same date with this person and I can say that I can really agree with this review. Even the waiter Alex from Bulgaria - we met him and he really tried to satisfy our needs (we asked him once for sugar free desserts) and he continuosly got them for us before we used to ask him every single day. What a great person!!! The only thing is about the photos - they are really expensive - great but expensive 20 euros each!!!! i think that some cruise negative reviews are a bit over-exagerrated .....before going on Msc Armonia, I was a bit afraid, but after I came back and experienced myself, I can say that sometimes I will notfully rely on reviews.....you have to try it yourself
