JUST RETURNED WITH MY HUSBAND AND 5 YR OLD SON FROM AROUND THE MED. WE ARE SEASONED CRUISERS AND PREVIOUSLY USED CELEBRATION AND ARCADIA ETC.FAB WEATHER AND STAFF/ENTERTAINMENT WERE A1. THE SHIP IS A 'TUB' AND SMELLY IN PLACES AND DESPERATELY NEEDS A REFURB TO SMALL TATTY CABINS WITH A TV THAT COMES OUT OF A MUSEUM!
PUBLIC AREAS ARE NUMEROUS AND LARGE AND PLENTY OF ROOM. POOL IS TINY AND A DISAPPOINTMENT ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS A CONSTANT BATTLE TO GET DUMPING TEENS/BIG KIDS OUT OF IT AS THEY SHOWERED EVERYONE WITH THEIR OUT OF CONTROL BEHAVIOUR WHICH WAS UNACCEPTABLE FOR FAMILIES WITH SMALL KIDS WHO WERE PUT AT RISK BY THEM. PARENTS NEED TO BE MADE TO BE ACCOUNTABLE SOMEHOW. NO SUPERVISION OR MANAGEMENT OF POOL MOST OF THE TIME.
VERY CLEAN AND FOOD WAS GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS OTHER SHIPS.
PREFERRED THOMSON CELEBRATION AS BETTER FOOD AND NICER SHIP AND FAR BETTER CABINS. BUT THE ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES WERE NOT AS GOOD AS ESCAPE. SWINGS AND ROUNDABOUTS..
WOULD GO ON IT AGAIN IF I HAD KIDS WITH ME BUT ONLY AFTER IT HAS HAD MILLIONS SPENT ON IT TO BRING UP TO STANDARD OF ITS SISTER SHIPS.
A GREAT HOLS THO, EVEN THO 1ST IMPRESSIONS WERE HORRENDOUS,I WANTED TO GET OFF AS QUICK AS I GOT ON! IT GOT BETTER! WE ARE AWARE THAT MANY PPL COMPLAINED, SO IF YOU ARE FUSSY, BETTER SPEND YOUR SAME MONEY ON ANOTHER SHIP.
WE ARE CHANGING COMPANIES NEXT TIME, BUT NO FAULT OF THE POOR STAFF. TRYING ROYAL CARRIBEAN FOR AN 11 DAY CRUISE LESS THAN THIS COST US FOR A WEEK.
SO GET THIS TUB DONE UP AND STOP TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HOLIDAY MAKERS AND POOR STAFF WHO TRIED SO HARD TO PLEASE.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my husband and i thought the best thing about this cruise was the bike tours and destinations we were very dissapointed with the plastic plates bowls and mugs that were for use in the beachcomber restaurant this luckily wasnt our first cruise and people we met whom were experiencing cruising for the first time we told them that it is better on other ships ie celebration and the spirit the food wasnt bad although more often than not it was cold by the time we sat down , we visited the oasis restaurant for our wedding anniversary the meal was served very well polite staff and excellent choice

Hi. 5 of us have just booked to go on the Island Escape around the Canaries next Feb. All Inc. Looks like Thomsons have listened to you as the ship is due for a complete re-fit this Oct. As for the American lines such as Royal C & NCL I dissagree about value. They sell their cruises cheap and sting you on drinks, service charge and gratuities. We found this out 1st hand and from fellow cruisers. Best all round value for us is P&O and Thomsons. Thanks for the tips though. I hope not too many kids will be on in Feb.

it must be something to do with cruising on Island Escape . . . .

The rattling of lose screws on board: you have to shout.

But perhaps with Royal Caribbean the high charges for gratuities and drinks plus surcharges it may well come out costing you rather more than you think. But quite clearly you will be going up a couple of grades! Perhaps you did not watch the TV series featuring the maiden voyage of Island Escape - it seems as if very little has changed!
