What a fabulous holiday we've just had on The Island Escape. Our flights and transfers were efficient and well organised and we received a warm welcome in Gran Canaria.
Our first ever cruise so excitement was mixed with trepidation. First impressions were good....the size of the ship is simply awesome and it looked well kept.
Our cabins were on deck three so great for getting on and off and also very quiet at night times. Our cabins were spacious and spotlessly clean. We had ample storage space for clothing and were pleasantly surprised at general floor space.
We then simply enjoyed everything about the Island Escape.....
The staff were simply first class. Nothing was too much trouble and they were friendly and fun. Our rooms were serviced morning and night and we couldn't help but be impressed with the different towel sculptures each day.
The food was beauitfully presented, well cooked, appetising and more than ample. Great selection, good variety. We preferrred the Island restaurant as we do like white table cloths but afternoon tea in the Beachcomber was always delicious.
The entertainment was good fun and plenty of activities to choose from. Information about activities, excursions and the area was impressive, detailed and comprehensive.
We stopped in some great places......quite sad to see Madeira covered in mud and the jeep trip in Morocco was good fun and a great experience. Do be warned though...the toilet facilities leave a bit to be desired!! We enjoyed some sun in the Canaries and loved waking up somewhere different each day.
The ship was well maintained and all areas were extremely clean. We were also pleased and relieved to see the level of hand sanitising throughout the ship.
All in all we had a great holiday and loved our first experience of cruising. We all suffered from sea sickness so don't forget to take some quells but quite enjoyed the bizarre feeling of being unsteady on your legs ....even when on dry land!!
Thank you to every member of staff on the Island Escape for a truly great holiday.
Quality of Food4
preferred the Island restaurant rather than the Beachcomber.....
Entertainment4
great shows, funny games, friendly entertainers, good pub singers
Shore Excursions3
The Morocco jeep excursion was a great experience. Lots of bumps over tracks so not for the faint hearted! The toilets were awful so take your wet wipes and hand gel. The meal was different to say the least! with the odd fly or two thrown in but to be fair no-one got food poisoning.
Staff5
Every single member of staff deserves a mention...for their total commitment to making your holiday enjoyable and problem free.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities4
Huge range of watching, doing, enjoying, learning. Simply not enough hours in the day to take advantage of all the activities on offer.
Cabins3
Good size, plenty of storage space, bathrooms could do with being updated but clean and functional. Rooms were being refurbished throughout our holiday.

In your review you say 'the toilet facilities leave a lot to be desired' would that be on the boat?? If so, then this can be the only comment I agree on, regarding the Island Escape!!

I have been on other cruise ships sea princess being one of these and enjoyed our holidays, however we also went on Island escape and loved our holiday on that too. It may not have been as luxurious as other ships but for entertainment and friendliness it was better.

Have you been on it? It's a rusty, unstable, grubby converted ferry boat. The staff need medals for being on it. They deserve better as they work hard and smile through it all. It's a disgrace.

I have been on The Island Escape twice and I must say both times were exactlly the same experiance as Mr Mrs Ding. I find it relaxed, Fun and down to earth and a price I can afford. The staff are first class and very attentive. It may be a bit shabby compared to the newer boats but it is spotless. Food is great and bar prices similer to home. What more can you ask for? We dont all want snooty cruises with snooty passengers. Thanks for your review Mr Mrs Ding

Why do some people have to bring their personal prejudices to bear when they comment on other people's reviews? Try and be objective - that is the whole point of the exercise.

Great review, Ding. Shame to see Madeira in such a mess but I hope the residents get all the help to get their beautiful island back to the way it was. I am glad you mentioned the staff as they deserve huge praise for dealing with some of the passengers IE has had recently. It must be difficult for them sometimes but glad to hear that they shine through and have made your holiday such a success. Great review.
