We have recentley returned from a wonderful cruise with Hurtigruten.
Yes the cabin was small, but we were prepared for this as it was on the Lofoten
which is over 40 years old.It had wardrobe space , a wet room, our beds were
comfortable, even though in bunk form .The ship had beautiful wood panels in the
public areas, food superb with great choice,as nice as any cruise ship we have been
on in the past[9 todate].Alchol is very expensive £35 for a bottle of wine,so we didn't
get drunk.Don't expect entertainment because there isn't any, just New Years Eve a
local band came on board, fireworks all around the harbour which made a very enjoyable
evening champagne provided at midnight. When crossing the artic circle ,a little bit of fun
takes place with ice, which I will say no more about.
.The scenery was fantastic,we did a couple of excusions which
as always were a little expensive,in particular the dog sleighing over £100 each person.
All in all it was a great experience, the round trip, enables you to see the ports of call missed
during the night,It is also a working ship and some folks complained of noise from the gang
planks at night.
Hopefully sometime we will make a return to her and see the midnight sun,and meet up with
the wonderful crew, who are just like a big family.
Quality of Food5
Varied menu, but always plenty of fish .Ther is just one dining room.
Entertainmentn/a
No real entertainment
Shore Excursions2
A taste of Vesteralen,Harstad, which was encluded, even had we paid good value for the money. Dog sleighing, not such good value, and very uneven ground in places, making the ride not so pleasant.
Staff5
Generally all of the staff very very pleasant, like a family as it was a small ship.

Cabins2
Small but adequate

Question by O'Neill, Kettering (20 Jul 10 14:25) about this REVIEW
Hello. My husband and I are going on the Classic round voyage with Hurtigruten on Jan 27th 2011. I wonder if you could answer a couple of questions for us..What currency did you take with you ? Do they use a card system for payment like on cruise ships ?...What was your weather like and was it rough at anytime ? Did you get to see the elusive Northern Lights.? and ......would you go again with Hurtigruten. (We are booked on the Trolfjord)..Thank you in advance for any help you can give us.. Just found this website so please forgive me answering a question made to someone else. Yes there is a cruise card system which you pay for at the end by card or Norwegian Kroner. I was on the Nordstjernen last February (the oldest ship at 44). Weather was cold and fantastic with some heavy snow. On the short trips out to sea it was a little rough but this ship like the Lofoten does not have stabilizers. The Trolford being a modern ship does though. I didnt manage to see the Northern Lights so I am going back again in March, this time on the Lofoten.
