First time Panama Canal.

Reviewed By: on
This was a three week long cruise from Fort Lauderdale, through the Panama Canal and up to Vancouver. It was the first time we had cruised with Holland America Line. The ship was not as big as ships we had previously cruised on so we did not know how it would perform in high seas. However we were happy to find that it was equal to the smooth sailings we had experienced before. The crew were extremely friendly and helpful and the passenger areas of the ship were spotless, and it seemed that wherever we went the crew were polishing and painting and cleaning. We chose anytime dining and found that we did not have to wait at any time to be seated on a table for two. The restaurant staff were attentive and made an effort to get to know your likes and dislikes. The food was excellent and varied with plenty of choice. We always had our evening meal in the main dining room but breakfasted and snacked in the lido buffet, where again the food was very good and varied to suit all tastes. The shows in the theatre were reasonably good but you needed to arrive early to be sure of a seat (some seats had a limited view of the stage). There were plenty of excursions to choose from at each port of call, but on some occasions the assembly for joining an excursion was a little disorganised. We visited Curacao (including the distillery), Aruba (where we went on a semi-sub), Cartagena (which was extremely hot), Costa Rica, Nicaragua and then three ports in mexicco (all of which were excellent). We then went to San Diego (which we plan to visit again in the future), Victoria and Vancouver (both of which we had visited before.

All in all it was an enjoyable cruise and we wouldn't hesitate to cruise with Holland America again.
