This was a surprisngly good cruise. Having previously sailed on the Ryndam we expected the cuisine to be average. In fact it was outstanding with plenty of choice and very substantial portions. Our opinion of the food was shared by everyone we met. The lunchtime lido deck buffet was extensive and included Asian and Italian sections. I particularly enjoyed the two hot puddings on offer each day. The Volendam itself does not have any particular wow factor, but it was stable and seemed to have very good cabin sound proofing. There was not much room at the foot of the bed and only one of us could access the wardrobes and shelving at any one time, but otherwise it was a well appointed stateroom with a verandah housing a sunbed and chair. The staff could not be faulted and the cruise director was one of the best we have encountered in 20 plus cruises. Entertainment, however, was so so. The captain put so much emphasis on the continual need to wash hands that it would be surprising if this ship was ever dogged by viruses.

| Quality of Food | |
| As usual we opted for anytime dining. We ate all evening meals in the restaurant and a few breakfasts and lunches. Fish dishes were especially good. | | Entertainment | |
| The lead female singer was not very good and this spoiled the revues. Other shows were okay rather than memorable. | | Shore Excursions | |
| Because of the ridiculous cost of shore excursions we followed our usual practice and did our own thing apart from a very good Rotoroa trip. The New Zealand landfalls lent themselves to planning our own visits. | | Staff | |
| Two members of staff really impresed us, the cruise director who was highly visible, friendly and amusing, and the computer suite manager who was most helpful in helping us to access photograps of a new grandchild, born whilst we were away. | | Children's Facilities | n/a |

| | Cabins | |
| Our cabin had a very tiny bath and would actually have been better with a walk-in shower. Generally, however, it was a very pleasant and comfortable cabin. | | Overall Rating | |
