This seemed a cost effective way to visit the Antarctic. Started the cruise in Rio then on the Beunos Aires,Montevideo and the Falklands before the Antarctic Peninsular. Our stateroom was spacious with good storage and a well appointed bathroom. On booking we could not get fixed dining but when we boarded the Maitre de arranged for us to have early fixed dining on a table with two Australian ladies. The food was very good ,even for a vegetarian, plenty of variety and good service from our Indonesian waiters. We mainly ate in the Rotterdam dining room whose decor was reminiscent of a 50's chinese restaurant.ie red and gold.We tried the Pinnacle Grill (premium) but were not impressed. The no charge Canelleto Italian dining option was much better but had a limited menu but good ambiance and service.
Entertaiment, mixed, geared towards Americans, but plenty of other activities. Excursions expensive
Quality of Food4
Rotterdam dining room mainly, could have slow service at breakfast.Good for meeting other passengers. The cruise started and finished with a GI outbreak so there were some restrictions on service.
Entertainment2
The onboard company were capable of good performances but were under used. Some of the headline guests were Las Vegas has beens.A 45 minute solo spot was way too long. We would have preferred more variety shows. Mardi Gras was good. Although we understand that it has recently been revamped the Showroom at Sea had some poor viewing areas with uncomfortable seating especially upstairs.
Shore Excursionsn/a
We did our own.
Staff4
The Cruise Director, Michael Headla, and his assistants made sure that there were plenty of varied activities throughout the day. Havid, our Matre'd was especially helpful.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities4
Plenty to do throughout the day.Tai Chi to Computing and cookery. Dedicated cinema popular. Only has a small dance area. Lots of sunloungers and a good outside promenade deck.
Cabins4
Deck 6 Outside, spacious and quiet. DVD player was a nice touch as was the fruit bowl. There was a bath tub but was rather small.Very comfortable beds.

Am looking at a similar cruise in Feb 2011.Were your flights included inyour booking and if so who did you book with? If not who did you book your flights with?
Answer by Walker, Darlington (02 Feb 10 21:04) to a QUESTION by clark (02 Feb 10 13:39)
The flights were included. We booked with Cruise Select and flew via Paris to Rio and back from Santiago in Chile again via Paris. Both overnight flights.
