Before boarding the Fred Olsen ship Braemar, we travelled down to Dover the night before, staying at a beautiful 17th century coaching Inn "The New Flying Horse" at Wye. There was no room at the Inn so we stayed in the stables building.Very comfortable bed, TV and a lovely bathroom with a big odd shaped bath. Dinner in the pub restaurant by candlelight, very romantic. Excellent food and choice of wine. The breakfast was delicious, well cooked and plenty of it. A real gem! We will be staying there again. We would recomend this inn!

The Braemar-a lovely ship, small, compact, easy to get around. Staff friendly, food fantastic in the Grampian restauarant. This was the smaller of the two restaurants much more personal. The waiting staff were terrific.

First call St Peter's port went to Herm under our own steam. That is to say we hopped onto the ferry. 20 minute crossing. £9 each return much cheaper than the tours and we probably had more time there. Weather was warm and sunny. What a spectacular place so quiet and peaceful. No cars!

Second stop was at Honfleur, France, also another lovely place. Very medieval in places especially the houses and churches.Weather again was warm. A small fishing town with lots of bars and restaurants. hard to choose which one to go to.

Only one thing spoiled the cruise and that was the unruly behaviour of a small party of children whose parents only interest was in having a good time not watching their offsprings! They were running in and out of the doors leading to the deck, they messed around in the restaurant, left a terrible mess on the table and what's more they sat at the table next to us. We were not impressed! I should point out that we are not in our 80's nor are we without children of our own.

All in all we will recomend Fred Olsen's Braemar to anyone wanting to go on a cruise.

Wouldn't it be a nice idea, considering most of FO passengers are a little older that they make their ships 'adults only'. OK I'm a grumpy, but there are lots of child friendly ships around.
