My wife and I returned from a Fred Olsen Cruise, BM0912 to Iceland, Norway , the Faroe Islands and Scotland on the
MS Braemar last week. It was a cruise to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary, and was the first time we had cruised with Fred Olsen. We have cruised a number of times with other cruise lines normally on larger ships, and were pleasently surprised how spacious the ship seemed, but with and intimate feel about it. The service in the restaurants was very good and the staff very helpful and efficient. The food was of a good standard and variety. Even the Palms Cafe where there was a more casual dining experience, the fact of being seated by staff and the tables being pre-laid made it more pleasent than on many ships where the casual dining usually results in a 'rugby scrum' for tables and food.
The entertainment was very good, but the venue (The Neptune Lounge) was not large enough for the number of passengers on board ,even with the two sitting arrangement. If you did not get to the venue at least 30 mins before show time, you would be lucky to get a seat. The seating was also not very satisfactory as with a combination of fixed seating and tables and moveable seating some gangways tended to get blocked which in an emergency could have been dangerous.
The shore excursions were quite good and not unduly expensive.
Embarcation and dis-embarcation went very smoothly, and all the arrangements by yourselves were excellent.
Because of our anniverary we were given a complimentary package by Fred Olsen which made the cruise complete.
