We thoroughly enjoyed our 35 days cruise to USA, South America and the Caribbean on Fred Olsen,s "Balmoral" This was the first time we had sailed on "Balmoral" and we are happy to report that she has maintained the high standards we have come to expect from all Olsen ships.
OUr cabin, a superior outside twin provided two comfortable beds and plenty of storage room, although a few more coathangers would have been appreciated. We missed the usual packets of biscuits provided as a matter of couse with our cabin refreshment tray Our early cuppa wasn't same without them! Our cabin stewardess was efficient.was always clean, and the cabin was kept tidy, but we did find that we sometimes had to wait until long after lunch before our cabin was made up. This was a bit of an irritant.
We dined in the Spey restaurant and I cannot speak highly enough of the service that we were given. All the waiters we met were quick, extremely helpful and very cheerful. I have arthritic knees and they were always on hand at every meal to help me to my seat and look after my walking stick,Roland and Carlos, thank you very much. The food served was generally good, but I have to say that we have had better on past cruises.
I found the shop inadequate, but this could have been that we were on the last leg on round the world cruise and stocks were low.Certainly there was not the selection of goods we have seen before.
No complaints about the tours provided ;we went on several and enjoyed them all.
The entertainment was also up to the high standard we have come to expect. Obviously not all the entertainment suited all people, but there was plenty of variation and something for everyone. I like the fact that "Balmoral's Neptune lounge is raked thus making it much easier to see the various acts, it also has a rising stage which helps viewing
It was a pity that there was a problem with the water pipes which necessitated the water being turned off during the night. Our cabin was flooded at one point, the problem was dealt with but it was a nuisance
However, I repeat that we enjoyed our cruise and will have no hesitation in booking another cruise with "Fred". In fact we already have, we booked on board and were very satisfied with the service we received
