After many years of promising myself a cruise, I finally set sail on the Balmoral's 8 night 'Christmas Markets' cruise at the end of November. I chose the Balmoral mainly because, as a single traveller, I found that the Balmoral was one of VERY few liners with an ample number of single cabins. I found the whole cruise experience very enjoyable. The multi-national crew were all very helpful, polite and attentive, the food good and more than ample and the general level of entertainment and activities offered high throughout.
Sadly, the bad weather curtailed the time available in Amsterdam somewhat but Hamburg, Copenhagen and Gothenburg were excellent ports of call and the experience of being on an an ocean going liner as it navigated the Kiel Canal was most surreal in itself! Yes, the ship does tend to cater for the '60 plus' age group in the main but it became all to apparent to me from talking to many people that they return to cruise with Fred Olsen Lines and/or the Balmoral time and time again!
Would most definitely sail on this fine ship again.
