Discover Egypt Cruise on Alexander the Great December 2008
We stayed at the Winter Palace in Luxor for 1 night which was lovely. We were then taken to the Alexander the Great cruise boat for a 6 night cruise on the Nile to Aswan returning to Luxor.
Alexander the Great was a lovely boat to cruise the Nile on. The staff were very helpful and professional. The food plentiful and excellent. The evening meal may not suit all tastes as they try very hard to be a little adventurous with the menu and sometimes the receipes don't work. However, lunch and breakfast are excellent.
The cabins are well equipped and nicely decorated. The boat used to have 60 cabins but now has 30, which means there is plenty of space on the boat, the sun deck, pool deck, bars and restaurants are all lovely. The bathrooms are not huge but more than adequate for a week's Nile cruising. Our guide was knowlegeable and very helpful.
We were lucky on our particular cruise as the boat was half empty as it was the week before Christmas. However, this was perfect for us as our small group felt like we had the whole boat to ourselves.
Would recommend Discover Egypt and the Alexander the Great to anyone. A Nile Cruise is a must for everyone who wants to see Egypt from a wondrous and majestic River.

| Quality of Food | |
| Excellent lunch, very nice breakfast and dinner can be a bit hit and miss. Plentiful and good quality, well presented and tasty. Good selection of European, English and local cuisine. Afternoon tea is also served. |
| Entertainment | |
| You should enter the spirit of the Galabaya party. You will not regret it. Get dressed up and play some silly games. |
| Shore Excursions | |
| The excursions available are included in the tour price (a couple are optional extras). You need to be quite fit on this cruise as there is a lot of walking in the heat. However, they are fantastic. The nice thing is that you have time on the return leg of the cruise to relax after the intensive sightseeing. |
| Staff | |
| The General Manager is excellent and the lady who runs the Gift Shop lovely. In general, all the staff were very good. |
| Children's Facilities | n/a |
| My husband and I travelled with our 12 year old son. I would say this cruise is not suitable for anyone very much younger, merely because the sightseeing is quite demanding. The cruise boat staff made him very welcome and the small pool/jacuzzi was a distraction. He loved the galabaya party and the belly dancing. The view of the Nile from the boat enchanted him. However, there is not a great deal to do on the boat apart from the small pool and sunbathing. |
| Onboard Activities | n/a |
| You don't need activities with this backdrop. Spa treatments are available and I had massage which was very good. |
| Cabins | |
| Comfortable bed, good soundproofing, good size and contemporary decor. |
