In January we got back from the Queen Victoria's 'Christmas Celebration' to the Canaries following an eventful 16days.

We have been regular Cunarders ( seven in three years),( four Queen Victoria, two Queen Mary2 and one QE2), and have to say there is quite a deal of difference in the quality of service between voyages.

We took a similar Christmas voyage on the Queen Victoria in December 2008 (albeit a different destination) and noticed that there is quite a difference in the quality of food on offer. Cruises in July 2008 and September 2009 on Queen Victoria were the best food we had tasted on land or sea, certainly five star dining, but for some unapparent reason the standard of food dropped considerably on both the Christmas cruises ( 2008 and 2009). We spoke to other regular cruisers during these voyages and they were of the same opinion and couldn't reason why. You would have thought that as it was a 'special' time of the year then all the stops would have been pulled out and there would have been a distinct difference in the standard and quality, but in fact was outstanding during the summer.

During our Christmas voyage I had to send my main meals back several times as the food was luke warm. This occurred in the Britannia Restaurant where previously this has never happened to us. I only read that this had happened on this web site and never ever thought that it would be on the Queen Victoria! The Maitre D' offered to change my meal but by this time it was spoiled. I am sure that you could chose a voyage during the year to find that it is back to being five star yet again. I just don't understand the variance in quality. Perhaps ( I'm sure) someone will tell me why!

Our cabin was up on Deck6 and as we were experiencing bad weather (force9), through the Bay of Biscay the ship was rolling quite a bit. We also missed several ports Cadiz and Gibraltar and had to move from our berth in Madeira to allow the 'Aurora' to tie up, whilst we had to go off to anchor, and many of the passengers weren't able to use the tenders because of the short amount of time in port on that day.

Due to bad weather we experienced water ingressing into our stateroom from the balcony. We were going through heavy seas but this was mainly due to rain, as we were on Deck 6. Our carpets were soaked up to approximately 1/3rd of the stateroom. The water had come in via the raised ramp which is designed for wheelchairs. This had obviously come in under the exterior section which protudes outside onto the balcony. Our stateroom steward Joe was very helpful by putting towels down at the bottom of the door, but to no avail as the water continued to come in during the cruise.

The housekeeping people brought in a de-humidifier which had little or no effect and the carpet remained wet for several days thereafter. My wife and I who like the confines of our cabin had to vacate it for hours on end because of the de-humidifier and its noise. Eventually the carpet dried out., but it did spoil the cruise. I have since written several letters to Cunard concerning the problems encountered and they have since offered a refund off our next cruise which will be the Queen Elizabeth.

I aggree with all your comments. You will find my review Logan. I had a few remarks made to me about. I think when you give a review it is how you found it to be. The food was most dissapointing , loads of meat and little veg. I found this cruise to be not one of better ones and cunard have to get their act together. I wrote to them and said their standards are slipping. Of course they denied it. I was at the cruise show yesterday and made my opinions made. People are turning to celebrity now. All the best
