Cruise Ship: Queen Victoria Sailed: January, 2010
Destination: Transatlantic Age: 65+
Cabin: Outside Occasion: Getting to a destination
Having been on the Queen Victoria before we were expecting the best but were disappointed with the way they handled an outbreak of norovirus and the entertainment was not up to their usual standard [no West end style shows] . They also were totally disorganised in their quiz entertainment and in the restaurant they ran out of some food before we got to New York.As this was the first leg of a world cruise I was glad to be getting off at Fort Lauderdale. I have not heard whether it improved after we left. There were other things wrong as well but these were the main problems. On the positive side the ship & the cabins are beautiful and most of the waiters and cabin stewards were very helpful and polite.
Quality of Food1
We had no choice but to eat in the main restaurant as all others were closed due to norovirus.
Entertainment1
None of the shows were up to standard but it was not because of the performers as each was good in his/her own right but there was no variety as there was only one act on each night anf it became boring after a little while and some of the acts were repeated on another night with no West End style shoes to break it up, we just had one night when the singers and dancers did an Elton John tribute

no one in particular

Onboard Activities2
there is always a lot to do on a cruise but we like to do quizzes and we were very disappointed inthe way the gave prizes as apparently they had forgotten to bring any on board.

It didn't improve too much,I left in SF, the lido did reopen but all food was served by staff. Yes the crew were cleaning left right and centre, in the Lido the table tops and seat cushions and backs were sprayed with a sanitising spray and wiped meaing (according to the note left a 5 minuite wait untill it worked. Then you sat down, where did you hands go to move the chair in, to the underside of the chair , I hear you say. Was it cleaned ?? I don't think so I agree with the comments about Entertainment ( Both Royal Court and ad hoc quiz supervision) cabin looked like a new vaccun cleaner was required, cabin stewards did their best. Overall a disapointment Toodle pip
Opinion: Disagree Comment by Lloyd, Rural South Leicestershire (19 Feb 10 04:37) about this REVIEW
Well, were we really travelling on the same ship? I can't comment on the theatre, as apart from the Virtual Bridge Tour I didn't go to anything, but I thought that the trip was superb. Eating in the Britannia Restaurant the service was superb - we had an ex QE2 Queens' Grill Assistant Maitre'D looking after us - and the sommelier remembered me from QM2 in 2007! Yes, there was an outbreak of Norovirus, but other than everything being cleaned left right and centre and the Lido being closed, there wasn't much difference. I felt more concern for the crew having to work so much harder than anything that affected me personally. Dr. Carroll was reassuring and informative on the noon announcements. The crew were great. And you know what? The ship as a whole had a feel that was akin to RMS Queen Elizabeth 2. If that doesn't make readers think that MV Queen Victoria isn't a ship to covet, then nothing will. I will be coming back faster to QV than I will to QM2.
