Cruise Line: Cruise & Maritime Voyages Times cruised before: 1-2
Cruise Ship: Ocean Countess Sailed: September, 2011
Destination: British Isles Age: 56-65
Cabin: Inside Occasion: Wedding anniversary
We booked this cruise specifically for the itinerary of the Scottish Isles, Scilly Isles and Guernsey. Hurricanes and gales forced CMV to abandon all but 2 of the planned ports of call and substantially change the itinerary to Ireland, France and Cornwall. Obviously the safety of passengers was paramount but when such a substantial change is necessary surely customers should be offered the option of their money being refunded. All we got was a £50 onboard credit and the offer of 25% of another cruise! Apart from this, we found the eastern european staff surly and unhelpful, thank goodness for the asian and indian staff who did their best to make us feel valued and even managed to smile - something the Ukranians, Serbs and Russians appear to be incapable of. Needless to say we will not be using Cruise Maritime Voyages again and certainly would not recommend it to anyone!
Quality of Food1
We gave up eating in the dining room after the first night because of the military way we herded to tables and ignored when we requested a change of over cooked food.
Entertainment1
Apart from one young guitarist who gave us an impromptu performance of Jazz Guitar the rest of the entertainment was amateur and cringe worthy
Shore Excursions1
The substituted 2 day cruise up the Seine to Rouen travelled through predominantly industrial areas with little worth seeing
Staff1
Movinda, a waiter in the buffet restaurant was unfailingly helpful and pleasant amongst a group of unsmiling and disinterested eastern european staff
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities1
No
Cabins1
There was absolutely no sound insulation between cabins and we could hear everything in the adjoining rooms including a pair of constantly bickering elderly sisters, alarm clocks and toilets

We booked this cruise for the itinerary and were very dissapointed at the completley revised change to the schedule,it was not the holiday we had booked,so after two days in Liverpool we disembarked and came home. We have since looked into the history of this cruise and found it had never completed this itinerary at this time of the year, being unable to get a responce from this company we took the legal route and won with out any resistance. We are now in reciept of our money back in full plus £200.00 compensation. This company was in breach of ABTA rules 12/14 plus EU rule. so don,t be put off by what you were told on the ship fight for your rights. GOOD LUCK.

You state that "obviously the safety of passengers was paramount " then decry the more than generous onboard credit that you were given - unbelievable!! My experience of eastern european waiters and waitresses that Cruise Maritime Voyages use is that they are fantastic if you value their service and have a laugh with them. We can only imagine how the elderly sisters felt about their experience.

I think you were very lucky to receive any compensation and it was very generous. There was no obligation on the cruise line to do so. Did you not get off the boat at the historic city of Rouen?

You can hardly blame the cruise line for the weather. They didn't have to give any compensation, so I think they were very generous. What cruise line would offer a refund? Most wouldn't even have paid any compensation at all.
