We arrived in Hull for the evening departure on Sept.9th.
Within 10 mins of parking the car we had checked in and were in our cabin.Off to a great start.
The cabin was nice and clean but dated. The cabin boy was super, he appeared to live in the passageway and whenever we appeared on the floor he would be there unlocking our cabin door.
We have never seen so many different towel animals.
The restaurant was clean but the food did not meet our expectations.the meat was a little tough.
The resident show team did a great job in particular their GoGo Joseph.
The comic was good.
In Cobh a tenor got on board and was by far the best act of the tour.He gave a great rendition in the afternoon.
The boat housewas in general a busy area for snacks and drinks but for goodness sake get some more cups. This was the only place on the trip with aq queue.
The ports we visited were the main reason for our trip and they easily met an d exceeded our expectations.
In general we had a wonderful time but some effort is required on the food.

Sailed: September, 2012
Age: 56-65
Cabin: Inside
Occasion: Family holiday

Quality of Food
The food was generally good but the cuts of meat were rather tough

The resident dancers and singers were very good and put in lots of efffort. The tenor was excellent Comedian ideal for the audience

Shore Excursions
We made our own way and spent plenty of time at each of the excusions we made. The cruise trips averaged 4 times what we spent.

Our cabin boy was super. Nothing was too much trouble

Children's Facilities
There are none

Onboard Activities
Lots of t.v game shows and all the usual activities

A little dated and we would have preferred a double bed. However very clean and well attende by the cabin boy

I would agree with everything you say but the food must have gone downhill since we were in norway on her in june . it was fabulous then . as you say the boys and girls aboard are fantastic , great kids .yes the ship is old now but kept well for age of itwe were in aldasness and were asore and the crew were in a workboat chipping and painting round the waterline to keep her smart . the only gripe i had was the condition of the lifeboats which doubled as ferrys when were at anchor . felt a bit like abandoning ship getting into them , banging heads and stubbing toes ,i wouldnt really have complained till i saw a new liner in beside us and they dropped huge catamarans like tour buses.. a door opened on the side of the liner and the passengers stepped on , rows of plush seats , about 150 to a boat . we had scaffold battens to sit on lol.still we got ashore ok .this was our first cruise and it certainly has me hooked . going to do it again .....

I also was on this trip but started a day early with the welcome aboard night so we were already on board , we thought everything about the trip was great except again to do with cups some were dirty also i picked up a fruit dish & the one underneath it was dirty ..they need to check all the pots / cutlery etc before putiing them out as it lets down the ship ..

The cup situation was exactly the same when we sailed on this ship in April. We could be stood there for over ten minutes before they brought more cups out. Not good enough on a cruise.

I've just come off Ocean Countress cruise to British Isles today and we had a really good time. I cannot agree with the comment about the meat being tough though, ours wasn't, and Jo Jo Joseph was not the best show on the trip but Ryan Morgan who came on at Cobh for us also, was absolutely superb and I even got chance to tell him, he was a lovely guy. The sea was very choppy for nearly three days and it wasn't possible to visit a couple of the places in Ireland but the staff of Ocean Countess are very safety conscious and people appreciated this. The restaurant staff were superb especially Myo, Enil, Franco and Artur. The cruise director is superb, Richard and we hope to see them all on Discovery.

Does anyone know why the ocean countess is being replaced by the discovery? i was surprised because not too long ago ocean countess was being advertised on new avonmouth sailings then suddenly it was the discovery. where is the ship going & will the name change? really liked that ship & hope marco polo doesn't go as well.
