Fantastic value for money, especially as we were upgraded to an outside cabin. We sailed from Tilbury to the Caribbean and back to Tilbury on a 31 day cruise. The embarkation was very swift and smooth. The crew were mainly Eastern European: their English was excellent as was the service they gave, whatever their role. The standard and variety of the food was also higher than we had expected for the price. As it was the ship's first cruise under new ownership, there were one or two teething problems: the crew were tardy getting people ashore in tenders; as there were insufficient chairs on deck, people took bistro chairs outside ; too few cups & mugs for tea & coffee (as people took these to their cabins or on deck without immediately returning them). The shows on alternate nights were the best we have experienced on any cruise with such talented singers and dancers. Our cabin was quite spacious with plenty of drawer & wardrobe space, but was very noisy with an air-conditioning vent just outside, but as the noise was constant we became accustomed to it after the first night. Afternoon teas were a highlight with a choice of different cakes & sandwiches each day; cups & saucers, a milk jug on each table and waiters bringing serving tea or coffee. My diabetes was well-catered for with sugar-free cakes and desserts. A pity that smoking was permitted in the lounges on the starboard side of the ship, as this tended to percolate into the theatre and other lounges. Be wary of discounted cruises- ours had been to get the company off the ground. It attracted some passengers who just wanted chip butties instead of dressing up for dinner, and who moaned very vociferously and loudly about everything - when it was mildly rough; having six consecutive days at sea crossing the Atlantic or when they verbally abused the staff so did not get the grovelling, instant attention they demanded. The excursions we joined were well planned and good value for money, but just half a day in Madeira and on some of the Caribbean islands was too brief. A most enjoyable trip!
Quality of Food4
Entertainment5
Shore Excursions4
The worst was in the Azores, as the torrential rain made sightseeing impossible. The best in St Lucia with a minibus trip down the west coast and then back by catamaran.
Staff5
They all did buit Richard, the Cruise Director was superb - always cheerful, a superb musician who took part in the Jospeh Show & trained a 4-part choir from scratch.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities3
Quite a lot to do, but could have been more. A little repetitive - either quizzes or physical exercises/deck games.
Cabins2
The space & facilities were as expected, but the plumbing needed attention - had the plumber out 6 times in 6 days, as only a dribble or water in either the shower on basin tap.
