In May this year { 2009 }my wife and I went on a cruise to Norway sailing from London International Port of Tilbury. The Cruise shiop was Marco Polo. We have been on 9 cruises over several years on a wide range of Cruise Liners and we rate the Marco Polo as one of the best . The cabin was spotless and our Cabin Steward was super. Walking along the corridors to find our cabin { they all look alike} he was there to say this is yours, remembering who we were and where we belonged. The Food was of the highest standard throughout, and the waiters very friendly and courteous. The entertainment every night was excellent. The shore excursions whether landing from the quayside or by tender was very well organised, Overall we can recommend the " Marco Polo " and are looking at going on it again next year when we have had a look at the Brochure

Thank you for this review. I have done 11 cruises mainly with P and O. This year i have done Pand O Princess and have found the big ships are not to my taste. I have got the brochure for the Marco Polo as i now want to try the small ships. Thanks
Question by Dave, Whitstable (14 Oct 09 13:59) about this REVIEW
Hi. As a Fred Olsen regular I'm seriously considering the Marco Polo so I was interested to read your review. One thing that was putting me off is the apparent small size of cabins and lack of balcony cabins. Now I may have got this wrong so I'd appreciate any further comments you might have. Also (and at the risk of flak from others), I'd like to know if there are designated smoking areas please. Thanks. Dave (also of Whitstable ;-)
Answer by Blyth, Whitstable (15 Oct 09 08:57) to a QUESTION by Dave (14 Oct 09 13:59)
Hi Dave, As regards the cabin sizes, my wife & I were very satisfied with the room available in our cabin. As non-smokers I cannot advise you on any designated areas for that . Concerning the number of Balcony Cabins I have no idea of how many there are as we do not use them . Whilst a balcony cabin is very nice, we take the view that after all a cabin is mainly only used for sleeping in, so do not spend any more time than necessary in it. Bernard

We have been on Marco Polo 5 times and love it, Once we were allocated cabin 118 which was low down in the ship with a porthole and it was HUGE.
