My wife and I were booked to go on the Marco Polo only about five days before the sad Invergordon story of the flu epidemic and we were quite concerned about our trip to the Baltic cities in a week's time. In the event, the trip was the best cruise we have ever been on; and everything was perfect from day one. We had to wash our hands, before and after meals, before and after visiting the loo and whenever we went from one sitting area to another. But HEY my old Nanny always taught me to do that anyway.
All cruises can be praised for their service and their food etc; but this trip was extra special and it was only when we said goodbye to the staff - cabin, restaurant, and shop, that we realised what made it so EXTRA special. The crew had just come back from a terrible experience; and one that certainly meant no bonus, no tips and no thanks from anyone. and suddenly they had another 850 people to feed, pamper and entertain. they did this with such enthusiasm and cheerfulness that we needed to know why.
The reason was simple: just as they were there to cheer us up and make us feel welcome, they knew that each time we thanked them or applauded their shows, we wer showing them that Cruising was fun again.
we would like to thank all the Marco Polo crew - especially on the July Baltic Cruise - for working their socks off to make our holiday one to remember,

AND, the magician Peter Turner was magic personified - and just the chap for anyone wanting something different at any enterprise.

Quality of Food5
Entertainment5
The whole of the entertainment was superb. My only criticism would be that my wife would not let me bring the Austrian Deputy Director home with me. Purely for singing lesson purposes you understand?
Shore Excursions5
St Petersburg the Cossack Singing and Dancing; fantastic! St Petersburg trip out to the Winter Palace where we were told not to step on the weeds - sorry lawns
Staff5
Richard Sykes was the most brilliant performer and Cruise Director - except for one thing... he delayed showing and listening to the talents and fantastic voice of his Austrian Assistant until the last evening; too late for me to kidnap her and bring her home with me.
Children's Facilities3
My grandchildren insist i should comment on this dunno why though. with only a few children on board they only made me feel very old and none of the 18 year old girls would crawl sufficiently slowly for me to catch them.
Onboard Activities5
With any cruise ship with less than a thousand passengers the greatest single benefit of all is to meet with and talk new friends; it is also good to eat with and drink with new friends; and it marvelous at the end of the day to go to bed and sleep with ............. the knowledge you have had a great day. (Dr Samuel Johnson said it before I did!!)
Cabins5
extremely comfortable and light and airy. but the excellent weather and full entertainments programme meant you did not have spend much time apart from sleeping in your cabin at all.

Totally agree with the Prof. Plus I got to have the Austrian lady sit on my lap and sing to me!! L'amour will never sound the same again. Ahh. Wonderful memories of the whole cruise.
