Marco Polo

Overview: This is a comfortable ship with classic looks, and, with its deep draft, rides well in unkind sea conditions. It appeals to couples and solo travelers of mature years who enjoy visiting interesting destinations in the comfort of a ship that is unpretentious yet pleasing, without much enter

Having been on the waiting list, my husband and I were very pleased when Cruise & Maritime offered us late bookings just days before it began. We had wanted to go on the cruise for the unusual places that it would go to, as well as some more standard ones en route to and from Manaus. It was a mammoth cruise for its six week duration both for its locations and the very full range of activities that were offered to the passengers.
Food was good. We liked to eat at the buffet restaurant in the day time and relax in the restaurant for evening meals, where service was excellent and the range of dishes on offer were ample.
Evening activities included splendid cabarets and a choice of music in the lounges. Music on the cruise was a strong point under the direction of the cruise director, Richard Sykes, himself a first-class singer and pianist. We also enjoyed the recitals of the pianist and violinist as well as the jazz musicians.
Daytime talks from Horace Dobbs (the dolphin man), Robin Moss (politics and local history) and Genevieve David (tour advisor for passengers not going on organised excursions) were useful and interesting.
As others have mentioned there is room for improvement in the arrangement of tender services. There was also a problem when one of the shore landings was reduced at short notice making some passengers quite upset. Memories of the cruise would be better if such things had not happened.
Overall we were extremely satisfied with this cruise and would be happy to cruise on Marco Polo again.

Quality of Food
Good. Daytime in the buffet, evening in the restaurant. Mostly ate curry dishes and rice.

Althought there was good entertainment on offer, we were really on the cruise for the places we were visiting so did not make much use of what was on offer of the entertainments. Other people were very pleased with what they could hear and see

Shore Excursions
Again, we did not go on shore excursions, but went around by ourselves when on land. Again most people seemed happy with the excursions they went on.

It is difficult to single out specific staff as all were very hood and helpful. However, Richard Sykes was and excellent cruise director and quietly managed to keep most people satisfied with their cruise.

Children's Facilities

Onboard Activities
Wide range of activities to suite a variety of interests. 6 weeks was a long time for 800 people to remain together harmoniously and the activities must have played a part in this.

Thanks for the review. We are sailing with Cruise & Maritime in July and it is nice to know they seem to have a good product.
