My husband and I love going on cruises and have done so for some 20 years now with having around 40 cruises under our belt. All sizes of ships and several different companies have been our aim. What I would recommend is firstly people with children should NOT be cruising. We have obviously encountered children on several occasions and even in the days when they were disciplined ((which obviously is not now) they spoil the holiday for other cruisers. If children break the rules e.g. swimming in an adult only pool or being in adult only lounges etc. then the staff should be authorised to admonish the parents. I have myself complained several times to staff on this to be met with an answer of "I don't know what to do about this" and thereby do nothing. Bad move as it means action has to be taken by the person complaining which then causes an even worse situation. I myself have had to do this on several occasions. A word of warning - don't cruise on an Italian ship - apart from the Concordia problem. We were on the Costa several years ago and it was the only cruise we did not enjoy. Dozens of children running around belonging to large Italian families consisting of Great Grandad and Great Grandma downwards. Even the meals were ruined by their unruly behaviour not to mention the knocking you out of the way by the adults.

Did it take you four and a half years to make this masterpeice up.You inform us you have done around forty cruises .Is this the first one that was not adult only because if it was not I would have thought you would have realise a family cruise was not for you.I don,t know you, but after reading this load of rubbish Iam glad that is the case.I would suggest for your next cruise you hire a canal barge then you will not have to mix with any other human beings. You,ve not that much time left on this gods earth so for christ sake get a life before its to late.

What a silly review Mrs Hughson. You might just as well say people with children shouldn't be allowed to go on holiday. You cannot generalise in the way you have, old people, young people, children, all age groups have those who behave in an anti-social manner. I wonder if you are one of these rude older people, who do not consider it your place to treat children with respect, then wonder why they show only antipathy to you. Have you tried Saga Cruises, perhaps they would be more to your taste. On the wider subject of anti-social behavior, yes it would be nice to be without it on a cruise, just as it would be nicer if we didn't have it on the streets and in the pubs at home. Sadly this behavior has been on the increase in recent years, but where do you think these youngsters and their parents got it from? You say you are 65 , that means you were a young adult in the 1960s when the deterioration in social awareness began. One final point, specifically on the subject of children on cruises. What other type of holiday gives children the opportunity to see a diversity of foriegn countries and cultures as you get on a cruise. I myself had never been abroad until I was 15 in 1957, when I took the only option to travel that was open to me as a young working class lad. I joined the Merchant Navy and got paid for it. Now as an "old geezer" I envy the kids of today who's parents can afford to pay for this experience for them. What would you prefer? They did it my way, scrubbing decks or pots and pans in the galley? From the tone of your whinge I suspect your answere to that is yes. Frankly in my opinion you yourself come across as the sort of mean spirited person who shouldn't even be allowed out in public, never mind on a cruise.

It's an outrage I tell you !!! I'm appalled. How dare you say such a thing ? I'm going to report this review right now. And I'm also going to tell teacher about the big, nasty man who's upsetting me. People simply should not be allowed to say anything that I don't like. In fact, I'm going to call the police and have you arrested for saying nasty words as well.

OMG - Milltimber, what a unpleasant person. So we have established you don't like Italians and you don't like children, yet you choose to cruise on an Italian Family Friendly Ship !!!!!!!!!!! I would suggest you stick to adults only and avoid those family friendly ships.

Along with everyone else, I'm am totally outraged by this review. Just what gives you the right to tell families that they shouldn't be cruising? I have been cruising with my teenagers since they were toddlers and they absolutely love the formal aspects to it. They do NOT rampage around the ship, and always behave respectfully towards everyone they meet. Would YOU find it acceptable if someone posted a review saying they didn't think older people should cruise because they are miserable and don't know how to have fun? How horrible would it be for people to be stereotyped because they are older? Yet you seem quite happy to sterotype all families with children. Disgraceful.

If anyone shouldn't be cruising its yourselves.

Have cruised on many different lines over the last 10 years and must say that the least enjoyable was an adult only cruise. Rude children usually know no better, rude adults do. Snobs would be how you would be discribed. I have come across some very rude people of all so called classes. But children are usaully just full of fun and do not need to be sterotyped by adults who cannot rememeber who to enjoy life and live.
