OVERVIEW: While various nationalities are carried, most passengers are Italian, so the ship is lively but quite noisy, with lots of children running around, particularly during school holidays. The interior decor, which includes marble, wood and mother of pearl, pays tribute to light and lighting –

It was a brilliant cruise, fantastic views, whales, orcas, dolphins, seals - and all "for free", since we did not attend a specific organised whale-watching-tour. Even though - of course - we also had rain, really heavy fog and, strong wind, we were rewarded with fantastic sunsets in the middle of the night (around 11p.m. to midnight). Attaching picture didn't work here, sorry.
Stops of the 20-day-cruise were Amsterdam (start and end of cruise), Bergen (Norway), Akureyri (Iceland), Nuuk (Greenland), Ilulissat (Greenland), Passage of the Prins Christian Sund (a real adventure with a big ship like that), Reykjavik (Iceland), Torshavn (Färöer Islands), Invergordon (GB) and back to A'dam.
Many more pictures as well as the blog of our cruise can be found at (German only, but roughly translatable with Google-translator).
The ship itself is really great, has lots of space, makes an "open impression", has lots of technology "state-of-the-art" - also to use by customers, real four-star-service (we didn't lodge in the Samsara-Suites, we were "regular" customers) and everything cleeaned really high frequented.
To give it a short note: brilliant and couldn't have been performed better !
A great "Congrat" to the Captain (Michele de Gregorio) and his crew for taking us there and back without "damages" (thinking about ice & weather conditions from time to time)!

Times cruised before: 6-10
Sailed: August, 2010
Age: 36-45

Occasion: Annual/regular holiday

Quality of Food
Breakfast & Lunch / Coffee-Time: Andromeda Self-Service Dinner: Taurus Restaurant

We only went to see the Crew Show - unfortunately, only 2 real "unprofessional" persons performed, the rest was "used to perform in public". We know crew-shows from other ships with real-behind-the-scenes persons and appreciated their skills more then.

Shore Excursions
All Excursions were great - we wouldn't have changed opinion alfterwards: Bergen & Nuuk - on our own, Akureyri (Pearls of the North), Ilulissat (tour into the fjord & to the icebergs with a small ship), Reykjavik (geysire & nature), Torshavn (vikings history and ruin of gothic church), Invergordon (Grand Dunrobin Castle)

They all did a brilliant job. For clear details and names, please refer to our blog ( where names and job description will be published under "Fazit" at the end of the cruise.

Children's Facilities

Onboard Activities
As many that you could get into real stress situation, if you would want to attend all of them... We didn't attend, but saw a few, so no comments from our side.

The Cabin had lots of storage space, even a "long" (high) cubboard for (long) evening dresses not to be wrinkled up, wehn put on hangers, and the shower had an approx. 20cm wider base than we were used to - great! Also very modern equipped and very comfortable beds - easy to fall into deep sleep in.

Hi, Donelly, Costa's policy is (in Europe) EUR 6.-/person/day (on cruises over 8 days) as service-surcharge that will be added to your account every day you spent aboard/in your cabin. If you are very satisfied with your cabin steward, and/or the waiter at your (every evening) table (which you are dedicated to all cruise the same table), resp. the waiter's assistant, then of course you CAN provide them with some tips at the end of the cruise. It's voluntary though. You won't be "advised" at the end of the cruise how much money to put in an envelope ready prepared waiting on your pillow 3 nights before disembarkation (as it is on other cruiselines - depending on the poilcy). They depend sometimes more on a good rating with mentoining the name/in person in the form you are requested to fill-in at the end of the curise, how satisfied you were with food/presentation/service/cabin, etc. That might lead to either one day off or even a promotion/higher grade work. Hope that could answer your question a little at least. Please let me know, if you need any more info. Thank you.

Thank you for your positive reply. Just uploaded August 16, 2010. Another few days to go to finalize the wole blog. It's really a huge load of pictures, but worth while, I guess. Keep on looking in the blog form time to time, till it's finalized. Regards,.
