We sailed on the Costa Fortuna from Venice in June 2010, on a 7 night cruise around the greek islands. Check-in at Venice was fast and efficient, we were on the ship within 50 mins of arriving at the terminal. Our cabin was a balcony cabin on deck 10 it was a decent size with plenty storage, nice practical bathroom with one of the best showers Ive ever had on a cruise ship. The cabin was spotlessly clean and we had one of the best stewards we have ever had. The food in in the resturant was good with a good choice and apart from on one occassion, was always piping hot, our waiters were friendly, fast and very efficient. The food in the buffet which we always used for lunch and breakfast was always plenty of choice and hot although at peak times it could be difficullt to get a seat, so the trick was avoid the peak times ! The entertainment staff were very good and worked hard to include all the nationalities on board, the shows in the main theatre were ok, nothing exceptional but this is not unusual for any cruise ship really. I was worried after reading reviews about having problems with long waits for getting off the ship in ports, but Im happy to say we had no long waits to get off the ship anywhere. The bar staff were very attentive and efficient and there was no long waits for service even when any particular venue was busy, and a nice touch was nibbles were provided every time you bought a fresh drink which is something many of the other cruise lines no longer do. Im also disabled and it was so nice not to have to keep going asking for help if i needed it, the crew seemed to be very observant and they were offering help before Id even thought to go and ask for it ! The only negative and it in all fairness isnt Costas fault is the rude italians (please note they are not all rude) have a habit of shouting over you and pushing you out of the way if they see a que forming. All in all I cant rate the Costa Fortuna, her hardworking crew and costa themselves highly enough. For once there really want anything to moan about !
Quality of Food4
Main resturant
Entertainment2
One acrobatic show was really fantastic rest of the time singers and dancers were ok.
Shore Excursionsn/a
We did our own thing ashore, it doesnt matter which cruise company it is ship organised excursions are always in my opinion too over-priced.
Staff5
I honestly cant fault any of the staff at all.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities5
Plenty of on-board activities.
Cabins5
Not the biggest or the smallest Ive ever had, but more than adequate nice large double bed, seating area, plenty of storage space etc

Question by Huntley, Seaham (01 Jun 11 14:46) about this REVIEW
Hello everyone. My parents and I are going on a 7 night cruise on Costa Fortuna in 2 weeks' time. Venice, Greek islands etc. It is the first time we've been on this ship (or Costa cruises for that matter) and I have a few questions. Is there only the one restaurant for the evening meals? or perhaps a buffet or snack area as well? Also what is the policy for bringing either alcoholic or soft drinks on board? Finally, is there a kettle in the rooms? Thanks very much in anticipation of some answers!!

Hi, we just came back from Costa Fortuna last week and had a fantastic cruise! In answer to your questions. There are 2 formal resturants (dining-rooms) and you will be assigned to one of them for the cruise. There is no buffet in the evening but pizzeria is open from 9pm-midnight. Food in the dining room is good but order veg & potatoes extra with your main course. You will get food and free tea/coffee 6am-6pm (Open 24hours on some Costa ships) in the buffet but it closes in the evening. They don't have a kettle in the room. If you read the Costa regulations you are not permitted to bring any food or drink on board. They have some good drinks packages X1 or wine/water packages. I suggest you ring the Costa office in London and they will answer any further questions. I have found all their satff very helpful I sincerely hope you enjoy the cruise as much as us. I travelled with my mum and we loved Venice and the Greek Islands. Everyone from Captain Paolo to our cabin staff were friendly and helpful

thank you for this excellent review of all the msc facilities. we too like msc and wouldnt hesitate to go with them again, despite the rude italians, which as you say is not msc's fault, just italian nature, i suppose

Thanks for your comment. We are going on the Costa Victoria in nov, it was reccommended by some of the fortunas crew, for people that prefer the mid size ships compared to the really big ones, so if its as good as Fortuna Ill be happy !

our waiter on the costa serena also advised us to use one of the smaller ships as he had worked on them and preferred them. we have sailed on the allegra which is old and small, but that was a wonderul wonderful cruise in the caribbean. as i say i have no problems with costa (or msc) and would always look for their cruises first when looking for a cruise.
