COSTA EUROPA 14 FEB 2010

As passengers on the Costa Europa we wish to express are deepest sympathies to the company and the families of the crew members who lost their lives as a result of the accident at Sharm el Sheikh.

We were very disappointed to find that our cruise had to be curtailed but realise that there was no way that we could continue.

The initial moments of the collision were most alarming and the subsequent uncertainty and the crowding that took place on the Blue stairway in order to leave by the single gangway did create an element of fear and concern.
We realise what a trauma it was for the crew and the whole of your organisation but we have nothing but praise for the way in which we were treated once we had left the ship. We were comfortably established at the Rotana Hotel and eventually received our baggage. The next day we were contacted by the two crew members who are to be commended on the way in which they handled a very trying situation. They kept their calm despite many troublesome passengers and provided us with the information that was necessary in order to prepare for our flight back to the UK. If any of the crew deserve 'Well Done' awards then these two do!!!

Our flight to UK was uneventful and when we arrived at London Gatwick there were Costa representatives to greet us and to escort us to the Hilton Hotel. The following day we made our way to London Heathrow to collect our car.

Well done Costa for sorting out what was a terrible event and causing we passengers the minimum of inconvenience. We consider their offer of the return of expenses to be very fair indeed.

Yes , we received our refund via our booking agent at the end of March. We accepted the initial Costa offer immediately after we received it. Suggest you speak to your travel agent,Good luck!

I wrote this review. As an update we are still awaiting feedback on the promised refund of our cruise expenses, have attempted to telephone Costa but gave up having waited for 10 mins. Now awaiting reply to my email.

This is a very nice review with a positive attitude after which the experience must have been awlful to say the least, and very very sad about the loss of life. It is a shame more people are not like you and wrote a good review insteed of moaning about everything.

I'll bet Costa wishes that all passengers were as reasonable as you in such a situation. It must have been dreadful, but all credit to you for your level-headed and altruistic response. Hope this hasn't put you off cruising.
