We travelled to far east with costa classica. It was a good holiday apart from few problems with behaviour of their staff. On captains gala night, cocktails were served but waitress who was serving the drink, offered drinks to people who were sitting left to us,ignored us and went on to offer drinks to peple sitting to the right to us.When we later complined to costa, their answer was that staff might have thought that you might not take alcohol. How on earth those staff knew, that we do not take alcohol,it was not written on our forehead.also they were serving soft drink as well.
Second time same behaviour happen in restaurant. We were 4 vegetarians travelling together.when we requested for icecream,it was told to us by table supervisior-Will we have icecream as we are vegetarian and icecream is made from cow's milk so it is non vegetarian. For tomato soup,it was told to us,it contains beef stock and made with bones. We were horrified to hear that as this thing was told to us after 12 days us been on the ship and from day one they knew we are vegetarians.
In our view all staff needs categorical training on how to treat all passengers equally and fairly.

I am sorry to hear of your negative experience. I have not been with Costa but would recommend P&O, Princess or Royal Caribbean as a better alternative next time.

perhaps they found out you were misery gutrs and so treated you badly. I was treated very very well, with no complaints at all, so if you were ignored, but people to your right and left were niot, ask yourself why? Perhaps it was your attitude towards the staff.

This is a nasty comment, underwood, and I am baffled as to why you took the time to post it :(

I posted it because I was on this cruise and I never experienced any thing bad at all. Bapna said that the waitresses, on captains gala nighty, ignored them. I ask myself why they felt the need to ignore them. What did they hope to gain by ignoring them. They did not ignore me and all the other passengers that I saw. So perhaps it was a mistake or Bapna done something that upset these waiters/waitresses. I have found that in all my cruises the waiting staff are always pleased to do what they can for you so sometyhing must have gone wrong here. All Bapna needed to do was ask one of them for a drink instead of going crying to Costa later on. I am sure if they said to one of the waiting staff, 'excuse me, may have a drink', they would have got one. So why did they act like babies and wait to later to complain to Costa? Surely they are grown up people? Now you know gthe reason for my comments. I do not think it was nasty.

I don't think that the main problem was the lack of a cocktail, but the perceived lack of training of the staff. When four passengers are vegetarian it should not be hard for the restaurant staff to cope. To serve soup made with beef stock and bones to vegetarians, without their knowledge, is very offensive. Thank you for your response, Zaffiro. I am glad you enjoyed your cruise. However, I wonder whether you would have modified your response to the reviewer if you had been speaking face to face. The fact is, there are ways to communicate your opinions which do not include harsh comments and glib insults. Such comments may make people reluctant to post reviews in the future, and this would be a pity.

I posted a response because this person was attacking the waiting staff. True being a vegitarian he/she should not have been given soup which was not suitable for a vegitarian. It seemed however the main gripe was that they were ignored when cocktails were served. Surely they were grown people and could have so easily asked for a cocktail, and not to make such a song and dance about it afterwards. I was suggesting it was a maybe an oversight by the serving staff and all they had to do was ask for a cocktail. If after this they were ignored then they had a case. If you read the comments they wrote at first, and I quote, \'They served people to our left and then people to our right\'. This means that the staff must have crossed their path at some stage of serving and if that was me I would have stopped them and asked for a drink. I would not have waited till later to complain , which is what they did. Also I do not believe my comments were in anyway offensive. At no time was I offensive. My partner ( Underwood) wrote at the time that perhaps the staff found out that Bapna was a misery guts and that was the reason they were ignored. Underwood, or myself were not offensive in any way so for you to take this high and mighty attitude beggars belief. Also I am not scared to voice my opinions whether face to face or in a letter so if I met Bapna face to face I would voice my opinions to him/her and also to you.
