Friends gave us one of your brochures and we plumped for a Caribbean cruise in February, little knowing what an icy winter we would suffer! The thought of all that warmth and sunshine kept us going through the snow and ice and we were delighted with our choice.

As "Cruise Virgins" we were particularly grateful to Julia for her sound advice in selecting a stateroom which would be stable, quiet and convenient. We were surprised to experience hardly any sensation of being on board ship. Our stateroom was quite spacious, well furnished and with two single beds pushed together as a double. The balcony was large enough to sit out on and well worth the extra money although Celebrity prices are very reasonable.

We had elected to be on a table for six but, in the event, were on a table of twelve, however Celebrity had obviously given the matter some consideration and we were with 4 other Brits who were also on their first cruise. The two pairs of Canadian ladies on our table were great company as were the American couple, and the evening meal was something to look forward to both gastronomically and socially.

The itinerary took in 9 islands with only 2 days at sea and this gave us a chance to explore some wonderful forested areas and fabulous beaches. We found locally-based tours great value and perfectly satisfactory whereas tours organized onboard were pricy.

The other aspect which we found extremely expensive was alcohol. We enjoy our wine but resent having to pay 25 pounds a bottle! We were allowed to take 2 bottles on board with us but after that we were at their mercy!

Unfortunately the dreaded Norovirus struck the ship midcruise and our stateroom was raided for anything which might harbour germs. All publications were removed including the room service menu (awkward as my wife was confined to our room for 24 hours!) and cushions and coverlets disappeared.

Despite these few niggles we thoroughly enjoyed our maiden cruise, feel that Celebrity did a good job and will be happy to go with them again!

glad you enjoyed your first cruise, well except for the novovirus part. celebrity is our fave cruise company. the food is second to none. you seemed to have a nice mix of fellow dinners, this can make or break the enjoyment of dinning. so have you booked your next cruise yet?

Sorry to hear about the norovirus, but Im happy to hear you enjoyed your cruise. Can you please tell me which itenerary you selected, Im trying to find the one with 9 islands, as you mention, on their online brochure but cant find it?? Where in the UK did you fly from/to etc? Thanks
Answer by Slade, Fareham (15 Mar 10 13:55) to a QUESTION by Masoeu (13 Mar 10 21:59)
We flew from Heathrow to San Juan, Puerto Rico via Houston and boarded after a night at the Caribe Hilton. We sailed to St. Croix, St Maarten, Dominica, St.Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Aruba and Curacao before returning to San Juan for our flight home. Two of these islands were changed from the original itinerary which was entitled "Southern Caribbean 13 Night Fly/Cruise". Good luck with your research!
