We have cruised many times 15+ on Celebrity, are Captains Club Select members, have previuosly cruised on Century, Summit, Mecury, Constellation, Galaxy, Equinox ans Eclipse, but!! our latest New Year Caribbean Cruise on Constellation proves one thing - sadly, all good things come to an end This is the case with Constellation.

Following cruises on Equinox and Eclipse, this ship is definitely now second rate, with few exceptions.

The staff appear to be inexperienced with many trainees, some are exceptionally pleasant and make every endeavour to do a good job, others not so. Its not their fault! Its the companies for transferring the best staff to the newer ships.

The internet online service was diabolical, often you could not connect and after three minutes of trying disconnected, but you still had 3 miutes deducted from your online account for getting no service. The staffs explanation was that it was the satellites fault, and would not accept that it was the ships management who charged passengers accountsfor using the service, not the satellite. Problems with English? Customer relations also appear to be incapable of underestanding or able to carry out their jobs. The standard and variety of food in the restaurant and cafeteria have certainly deteriorated by comparison to what they were. OK so a recession looms. The CD and her entertainment team were excellent , but the visiting artists were a mixed bunch. The machines in the Casino wer antiquated and the odds were very poor compared to other newer ships.
I'll certainly book with with Celebrity in the future, but Constellation - Never again!

We haven't sailed with Celebrity before and booked ourselves Concierge Class. We enjoyed it but I do not think it was worth the extra money for Sparkling Wine on arrival, Flowers in cabin and rose in bathroom. Better Robes, bedding and towels. The canapes which arrived every day were mostly piped cream cheese so they were often left. The noro virus was on board and from day 4 everyone had to have spray on their hands even in the shops. The cabins and corridors were sanitized in most ports and on the last day the staff were sanitizing all the corridors and cabins and delaying embarkation for the next cruise. We had many items removed from our cabin including, cushions, wine bucket, glasses and books We ended up with plastic cups instead of glasses. I also did not like the fact that to have afternoon tea served to us we had to pay for it. If we went into Seaview self service they put the blinds down and you couldn't get the self service tea after 4.30. They would only bring the scones out if you got a member of staff who was kind enough to go and look for them. The food on the whole was good apart from the main courses which sometimes were badly cooked and presented. We had almost raw cauliflower and pale yellow brocoli which was old. I don't mean crisp vegetables but almost raw. Disembarkation and embarkation were well organised and the cruise director and most of her staff were very good but there was young man from Kent - he was offensive to my friend and I when we asked him to slow down when he was reading the numbers out accusing us of being greedy because we had extra bingo cards and every event he hosted, including quizzes, he Couldn't wait to finish early. He really needs some lessons in courtesy and customer service skills. The gratuites on this ship are astronomical - some staff deserved them but not all particularly the staff in Seaview who had to serve us tea from the machines, sometimes almost banging the drinks down in front of us. I understand they were not getting any leave due to Noro virus and all that involves but we were polite and stood in line patiently. Weather good

Worry not. Just returned from Constellation and had a great time. Great friendly service and really good food. Treat yourself to Oceanliners restaurant once which has even better food and is a great dining experience. Thalassatherapy pool is lovely to lie in and relax. As with all Celebrity ships theres plenty of space on decks and places to sit quietly. Our cabin (deck 7) was a haven of quiet relaxation at night. Great acapella quartet called 5.45 express regularly singing around the ship. The Internet might be slow (never actually tried it) but I've yet to go on a ship that doesn't have slow Internet speeds. Everyone can live without Internet for a couple of weeks when you're on holiday surely. Yes the Solstice class ships have the edge because they are newer but Constellation is still a fine ship. Go and enjoy.

Hi There My husband and i and two friends are going on the Constellation on the 24th February and having read your review we now feel alot happier. It is our first cruise so we are "novices" to say the least. Could you give us any advice on the drinks packages. We are not heavy drinkers, like a gin and tonic before dinner and then a couple of glasses of wine with our meal. We do enjoy coffees and soft drinks. Any help in this direction would be of help to us. Many thanks
Answer by Horbury, Doncaster (13 Feb 12 22:13) to a QUESTION by Leach (02 Feb 12 12:35)
The dining and combined drinks packages look good and save money particularly if you want to do the Ocean liners and Tuscan Grill packages 5 times - 5 meals and 5 bottles but of course this puts the cost of your holiday up. We opted for the 3 bottle package which was 99 dollars for 3 bottles. Gin and tonic is about 7 - 10 dollars dependant on gin. However remember that 15 per cent service charge is put on all drinks. Go online and look at the wine packages on offer. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mr Donnelly most assuring. Got led astray by a couple from Durham on IOTS Diamond drinks over the New Year and maybe next week with Elite drinks on Celebrity the same might happen but looking forward to the atmosphere Sunday week for the Superbowl (No I don't understand it either !!). Thalassatherapy pool is great from me as an arthritic and it has easy access and forexast for Saturday is 27 DegC

Hi Compared to most other cruse lines ships, Constellation is still good, but it does not bear comparison with Celebrity's Solstice class vessels. The standards have also fallen from what it had before the larger ships were introduced, but compared to the likes of P & O and NCL it is still superior. (In my opinion). Economies have been made by Celebrity, which have reduced difference in the standards which existed before. And their failure to upgrade the Internet and Casino make it far far inferior to their own newer vessels

Please do not worry, you will have a lovely time, we have been on the constellation twice, before and after the refit. The only thing we would agree with would be the internet speed but you can go ashore and pay a low amount for a long time in an internet cafe or shopl We have been on 9 cruises and the way you get treated with Celebrity is way in front of the rest! we are waiting to book later this year on her! We were last on it just before her refit (Equinox last year) and had no complaints and loved that thermo lasso pool !! Internet speed was not a problem last time as as I do every mail off line and as Elite members we get a good time free will not be a worry
