Just returned from a Caribbean cruise onboard the Celebrity Constellation and here are my views on our first cruise with Celebrity
The ship is going to drydock at Hamburgh on April for a £15 million revamp and this she definatly needs as there is a lot of wear and tear starting to show but overall she is still a nice ship and very friendly with the staff service second to none
The thing that surprised me was the age group of the passangers and was shocked to see so many people with either zimmers or wheelchairs and remarked at the safety muster at the start that I reckon that in an emergancy 50%of the passengers would never make it into a lifeboat
On the entertainment side it ranged from really good to very bad Perry Grant in Michaels Club was great for the Americans with his old groupies in attendance every night but on the whole not to most of the Brits taste The group/bamd that played every night in the Rendezvous Lounge were really good with a large selevction of music for all tastes The Edge of the Earth club was very quiet with not many passengers to be seen except on the buffet night where it was packed out!!!!!!
One big problem on this ship is the booking of sun loungers round the pool area especially on sea days This was the worst I HAVE EVERY ENCOUNTERED ON AND CRUISE SHIP.Iwas always down for an early morning swim at 0630hrs and by then 80%of all loungers had books and hats on them The warnings both by tannoy and notices made not a blind bit of difference We actually saw people with loungers booked in both the sun and shade.Even on port days people had beds booked even though they were ashore
FOOD..Depending on who you spoke to We thought the food was excellant but others thought it was disgusting with one of our dinner table complaining so much that the head chef came to the oable to speak to her and she gave him both barrels
We had the first sitting in the San Marco with a table of 8 and had a great laugh We thought the second sitting at 2030hrs a little late to be eating but found 1800hrs a little early as it did not leave much time to get ready if you had been on a trip
We done our own thing when going ashore as this was our third time round the Caribbead and had done all the tours
On the gratituities we let them know as soon as we embarked that we would only tip the staff who we thought deserved it and felt that 15%on everything onboard was a bit much although the Americans saw no problem with this as it's a way of life for them
Be wary if you go freedom dining as this incurres a 15%charge every night as they say it's different waiters everynight
We had a Sky Suite with the butler included The suite was a bit smaller that the suites we have had on other cruise lines and sorely in need of a face lift but kept very clean by our stateroom attendant''Doris''and butler''Nilesh'
Summing up we really enjoyed the Connie but that is only our view some we spoke to would never sail on her again but it's always the same as I am under the impressio that some people just like a good moan and your findingsare not shared with everybody

I think I may be the early morning swimming buddy of McPherson! If so, Hi! Yes, the lounger situation definitely is true.I could arrive at 6.30am to find they had all been reserved! After my swim, I could sit on the lounger for 3 hrs before any of the surrounding ones were occupied. Celebrity definitely need to sort this one out. If you are bold, you could throw off the towels, etc but it may cause an international incident!

Forgot to mention the formal nights It was very dissapointing to be sitting with evening dress and others in the dining room with track suit bottoms and tee shirt and one old guy in shorts and three quarter black socks with jesus sandals There were many complaints about this but nothing done about it

Ships certainly need to sort out the reserving of sun loungers - everyone gets annoyed at this. I am rather suprised that people didn't like Perry Grant as usually he gets very good reports. We really enjoyed him but he does become rather repeatative. We found the food to be excellent - but, as you say, some people just like to have a good moan. We have booked the Constellation again to go through the Panama Canal and look forward to seeing her again after her refit.
