Excellent - apart from Entertainment

Apart from the entertainment, we would say that the cruise was excellent. The ship was tired in parts, but will go for a refurbishment in April when several new restaurants will be added. I would definitely cruise on this ship again after the refit.
Quality of Food5
We found the found to be excellent with plenty of choice and cannot understand why anyone would want to criticise what was provided. The Seaside lunch buffet was very good with plenty of choice, including a British corner with “real” chips. We did not go to the speciality restaurant Ocean Liners for an evening meal as the menu was not to our taste. We were, however, invited for lunch in this restaurant and this was excellent.
Entertainment1
This was the one part of the cruise that was disappointing. All the music onboard the ship was the same – Broadway & “Middle of the Road” and did not seem to cater for the younger crowd. I appreciate that the majority of passengers were of pension age, but with lots of shows and bands, the ship could have tried to provide entertainment for all ages. We also did not appreciate that this was a Perry Grant theme cruise. He was always on!! Apart from his regular performance for his groupies in Michael’s Bar (which you could not get into because it was filled with the same people each night), he also appeared in two theatre shows. A minority of passengers really loved him, but we just don’t get it!! We had two comedians. One was okay, but the other was dreadful. We also had three production shows, two of which were fine. The middle show all Latin music and was dull and repetitive. There was also little in the way of other entertainment i.e. minimal game or panel shows and overall you got the impression that entertainment was not planned and unlike over ships you could not go from a show to other entertainment.
Shore Excursions2
We only did one organised tour, but instead we took a private taxi in most ports. This cost on average US$20 per person (for four of us) and provided excellent value. We got a more comfortable ride, one to one attention from the driver and avoided all the crowds. Definitely the way to do it!

The service throughout the cruise was excellent with every crew member we came into contact with happy to go out of their way to help. Our table waiter Marlon was excellent and one of the best waiters we have had. Our Assistant Waiter Marcya was very quiet, but extremely attentive.

We were lucky to stay in a Royal Suite for the first time ever and how did it spoil us!! The Suite had a separate bedroom and was probably three times the size of a normal cabin. The balcony was something else and had enough room for four sun loungers, a table and four chairs. We spent a lot of the cruise on the balcony and avoided the sun lounger problems on the open decks. We did, however, have one or two problems with the Suite. The Jacuzzi in the bathroom was temperamental and only worked when it wanted to. The in-room computer was in need of a memory clean up and despite mentioning it several times it was never sorted. On the plus side we received all the benefits of Elite Captain’s Club membership and our butler Brijesh was fantastic. He also helped us arrange a pre-dinner birthday party in the Suite. The in-room TV now includes three “British” channels – BBC Worldwide; Sky News & Sky Sports News. We also had several Premier League games broadcast “live”. I was told that this was the first cruise to have these channels.
