Celebrity Cruises - Celebrity Silhouette
Celebrity Silhouette
Launched in July 2011, the Celebrity Silhouette is the newest liner in the Celebrity Cruises fleet. It is the fourth of the Solstice Class of vessels to be constructed and its sister ships the Equinox, Solstice and Eclipse are already in operation. The final craft, the Celebrity Reflection, is due in late 2012.
The Celebrity Silhouette is a stylish ship, featuring a combination of contemporary design and old-world charm. This helps to ensure that all passengers, no matter what their age or cruise preferences, will be able to find a place on the vessel that makes them feel comfortable and relaxed.
Based in Europe during the summer, the vessel generally sails from Rome to destinations around the Eastern Mediterranean, with just some ports of call including Athens, Kusadasi, Haifa, Jerusalem and Capri.
For the winter, the ship crosses the Atlantic and offers Caribbean cruises from New York, with stops in San Juan, Antigua, St Maarten, Nassau and St Thomas.
Ship stats and features
Passenger capacity: 2,886 Year entered service: 2011 Beam (ship width): 121 feet Draught (ship depth): 27.2 feet Length: 315 feet Tonnage: 122,400 Crew: 1,500 Maximum speed: 24 knots Number of passenger decks: 19 Number of lifts: 12 Number of swimming pools: 3 Number of cabins: 1,432
Food, cuisine and dining
Whatever you're hungry for, it should be easy to find something to satiate your appetite on the Celebrity Silhouette. The vessel offers a wide variety of restaurants for you to choose from, each offering a different type of cuisine in settings ranging from formal to casual.
The main dining room is called the Grand Cuvee. It spans two decks and its breathtaking decor includes a magnificent chandelier, not to mention plenty of windows affording spectacular sea views. Two dinner services are offered every night, while breakfast and lunch are provided on an open-seating basis.
Qsine - an alternative restaurant made popular on the Celebrity Eclipse - has made its return on the Silhouette and guests to this eatery will enjoy a variety of contemporary dishes served with flair. One of the most innovative parts of the dining experience in this particular venue is that the menus are provided on iPads and guests can order food and drink straight from the touch-screen devices.
Another dining option that's sure to be a favourite is the Lawn Club Grill, a barbecue located on the upper deck and surrounded by the glorious half-acre of real grass area that's become an icon of the Solstice class.
Alternatively, guests can choose to eat at a host of other restaurants like: • Blu (exclusively for AquaSpa class passengers) • Bistro on Five • The Porch • AquaSpa Cafe • Tuscan Grill • Murano Room service is also available 24 hours a day, with a menu including sandwiches, salads, pizza and continental breakfast items.
On-board entertainment and activities
Those travelling on the Celebrity Silhouette will have a wealth of entertainment options to keep them busy during the voyage - the hardest part will be deciding what to do first!
Guests will be able to choose from many of the more traditional cruise activities, such as educational seminars, bingo, karaoke and quizzes, while the large casino is a favourite choice for those feeling a bit lucky.
There's a large theatre with hundreds of seats for passengers who wish to watch musicals, plays, concerts or comedy performances, while films and live music are available in other locations around the ship. There are also plenty of bars, lounges and nightclubs for those looking for a quiet spot to enjoy a cocktail, or a lively party scene where you can dance the night away.
A new feature developed for the Celebrity Silhouette is The Alcoves. Located at the Lawn Club, this area features cabana-style spaces that have room for up to four people and provide a relaxing haven. They can be rented for the day and you'll enjoy free fresh fruit and bottled water, as well as access to an iPad 2 loaded with games, books and movies. You can even order in additional food and drink to be delivered.
The Art Studio is situated near the Lawn Club and is an ideal location for guests of all ages to watch demonstrations or take part in various creative classes.
In addition, there's a fabulous kids' club that offers activities and events aimed at younger cruisers, as well as a hangout space exclusively for teenagers.
Spas and fitness facilities
For the ultimate in relaxation, passengers can visit the AquaSpa facility, which is gorgeously decorated and offers a host of different rejuvenating treatments.
If you want to ensure that you look as good as you feel when you step off your cruise, be sure to book an appointment for a facial, teeth whitening or a new hairstyle.
Alternatively, various exercise facilities are also available, including cardio and resistance machines and fitness classrooms. Other options like a sports court and jogging track are available elsewhere on the vessel.
Cabins
With 1,432 cabins, the Celebrity Silhouette has 17 more rooms than its sister ships, but just like those other vessels, the majority of staterooms have ocean views with balconies.
The stateroom options are separated into several classes and price categories, each dependent on the size, location, amenities and services provided.
The most luxurious are: AquaClass, Veranda, Sunset-Veranda, Concierge, Family Oceanview and Deluxe Oceanview. Meanwhile, those looking for cruise deals may want to consider Standard Oceanview or Standard Interior.
