Cruise Line: Celebrity Cruises Times cruised before: 10+
Cruise Ship: Celebrity Equinox Sailed: February, 2012
Destination: Caribbean Age: 56-65
Cabin: Balcony Occasion: Birthday
This was our third Celebrity cruise, previously been on Panama/Caribbean cruises on Constellation and Solstice, selected for the dates as it was to celebrate my 60th birthday. Equinox is a truly beautiful ship with lots of well decorated and comfortable lounges and bars, though it is a shame that some areas like Michaels Bar and Quasar were always almost empty whenever we went past, and instead so many activities were held in the Main Foyer. Our cabin was comfortable with flat screen tv, sufficient storage space and we particularly liked the larger than normal shower room with masses of storage space and a glass shower door instead of the normal horrible shower curtain and also the balcony chairs/loungers which were not the usual cheap plastic. The food in the Silhouette Dining Room was, as we have always found with Celebrity, generally varied and of good quality considering the number of people they cater for, though I did often find the fish to be overcooked for my taste. We avoided the Oceanview Cafe buffet as much as possible because it is always such a crush, but as the Silhouette was closed for lunch on port days and only open until 9am for breakfast, we were forced to use it on these occasions. It would have been nice to be able to use the Silhouette on port days. The Cafe does have a good salad bar and you can have sandwiches and rolls made to order and also eggs freshly cooked at breakfast, however the bacon became dry and rubbery under the buffet lights, and we stayed away from any of the hot foods other than the Pizza. The desserts in the Cafe were always the same and not very imaginative. The Brunch was excellent and highly recommended but sadly was only held on one day of the cruise. There were lots of activities throughout the day and the cruise director (John Grantham) and his team were the best we have come across - John was very hands on and seemed to really enjoy what he was doing. We especially liked the Glass Show and the themed quizzes. The entertainment was very good indeed - we find Celebrity have a higher quality of entertainers than other lines - and we particularly enjoyed the late night adult comedy shows; the A Capella Quartet (Top Shelf) and the String Trio (West Side). Our one gripe however is the timing of the shows which were usually at 7pm and 9pm so if you wanted to see the show and were on 2nd sitting dining, you had to be dressed and ready for dinner by 7pm which defeats the object of choosing 2nd sitting. We rarely go on excursions in the Caribbean and the itinerary on this cruise was particularly good as we docked at every port which meant we could just walk on and off the ship instead of having to cue for tender boats. The service we received throughout was excellent (with the exception of one person on the excursion desk who was particularly unhelpful), the restaurant waiters, bar staff and cabin stewards were all keen to meet our requirements.

Celebrity Equinox 24 Feb. from Ft. Lauderdale Brief notes; There should NOT be an indoor (pool deck area) smoking section The pool butlers should be instructed to enforce the chaise sharing rules more strictly. The entertainment was average wrt crew staged performances. The charging for water plus gratuity is ? water should be gratis when leaving ship. Maybe cost of water should be offset by no appes for conceirige Value for shore excursions could be improved / staff knowledge could be improved Overall cruise, ports of call, excellent but small issues seem to detract. Attention to detail is "IMPORTANT" for all.
