We have just returned from a weeks cruise aboard the Carnival Victory following a very enjoyable weeks stay in Barbados. Boarding the ship was easy and hassle free. Our inside cabin on deck 2 was a reasonable size and the beds had been joined as requested when we booked, our steward was friendly and helpful and of course did the great towel animals every night. The food in the Pacific restaurant was very good and the service was excellent. The choice of food available in the Mediterranean buffet restaurant was good with dishes constantly being replaced even when it was at it's busiest which was most of the time. All staff that we encountered were very helpful, polite and friendly. We did not see a lot of the show's in the evenings but the one's we did see were reasonably good. A gratuity of 15% is added to every drink order and this can soon mount up. There was a large range of shore excursions available which could be booked via the TV in your stateroom, these were quite expensive and alot of people did their own thing, we did this in some of the ports and had no problems. We were impressed that at no point did we ever struggle to find a sun lounger what ever the time of day, though it was very noisy around the main pool with the cinema screen and live music.
When we booked this cruise we were aware that we would be out numbered by Americans but were unprepared for the amount of Puerto Ricans which would be on board who were rude, loud and obnoxious. As we had joined the ship mid cruise we found that most things aboard the ship was geared towards the passengers who had boarded at the beginning of the itinerary, this was especially true on the day that we docked in Puerto Rico and 90% of the passengers left the ship and new passengers arrived. We had to leave the ship and proceed through immigration and were not allowed back on board for another 2 hours, on this evening the Pacific and Atlantic restaurants became open seating and the casino and shops did not open until after the ship left at 10pm.
We enjoyed all the ports that the cruise visited and would definately cruise again, however we would not use Carnival as we found the ship to be an American hoilday camp on water with constant tannoy messages announcing the next 'Hairy Chest' and 'Mr & Mrs' competition.
