BALTIC CRUISE CARNIVAL SPLENDOUR SAT 30 AUG 2008 VERRIDAH DECK CABIN 6411 INSIDE 12 DAY CRUISE
JANE @ PHIL BRIDGER GRANGE MOOR WAKEFIELD WEST YORKSHIRE
We had travelled on board Carnival Victory in 2005 on a Western Caribbean Cruise from Miami, and after enjoying our first experience with Carnival, we both felt it was too American for us, so it was a great surprise that we booked again on a brand new ship, no flying, and a brand new cruise and new destinations.
Our first sighting of the Carnival Splendour at Dover, was :she is massive:, what a sight?
Embarkmentation at Dover was smooth and very quick, and we were on board at lunchtime, with a good buffet meal and plenty of time to see and explore the ship
CABIN: Good for inside, with lots of space and storage, good size bathroom and toilet with shampoo and body wash
SHIP : Looked grand, clean in all public areas, and plenty of open space to relax, sit down and plenty of table space to eat
althought the critics had mentioned the ship being a horrible pink, it did not bother us. and you soon got used to the colour scheme in all areas
FOOD: We ate in the Gold Pearl Rewsturant on the first sitting, with a table for four, the waiters were out of this world, friendly, providing a good and quick service, with grand food at all dinners. There was also lots of variety at the buffets at the Lidi deck, grill, pizza and sandwich bars
ENTERTAINMENT: John Heald cruise director, was great and had us both laughing and sometimes in stitches with his witty and funny humour in audience partisipation, it was a change having a British Cruise Director, also Heidi and Steph were great, soon got me blogging on John's Heald's website, all the entertainment was first class, the Splendour dancers and singers were fantasic, especially the Vroom stage show, however I dont think the American's on board got the jist of some of the acts
DESTINATION PORTS: Copenhagen,Westmunde,Tallin, St.Peterbourg(overnight),Helsinki and Amsterdam
Copenhagen very expensive,we did our own thing in Helsinki,Copenhage with city tours on bus, walked around Amsterdam
booked a lovely tour with Carnival for Tallinn, and the best was the two day tour with Carnival The Grand Tour of St.Peterbourg, the best was to see this fantastic city with a boat trip, and visits to the Hermitage @ Peterhof outstanding. The weather was fantasic for all the trips which made the holiday
On of the highlights was Splendour's passing through the Oresund Bridge which unites Denmark and Sweden across the island of Amagar, with only 13foot clearance from Splendour's funnell it is a sight to see,and fine navigation from the captain and his team
This was a splendid holiday on the last Baltic cruise,if I was to travel with Carnival again we would definally spend extra and have a balcony,
It is a shame that Carnival and the Carnival Miracle which was to do the Baltics in2009 have pulled out of Britain, could this be the credit-crunch , or have Carnival given up coming to UK, and sticking to their American Brand for cruises, We dont know, but maybe one day we will once again see a brand new Carnival ship back at Dover
WE CAN ONLY DREAM
