Cruise Line: Carnival Cruises Times cruised before: 3-5
Cruise Ship: Carnival Liberty Sailed: January, 2010
Destination: Caribbean Age: 36-45
Cabin: Balcony Occasion: Annual/regular holiday
Just got back from a cruise on Carnival Liberty, and where do i start! it has some good points and some very bad points...
I'll start with the good points,,, ummm oh yes the food was great, although lots of queuing, especially for the stir fry, but hubby loved it, but some days he queued for 45 minutes! oh sorry good points! the waitressing staff in the main dining room were fantastic, very friendly and very accomodating.
Cabins, these were very spacious, bigger then most balcony staterooms i have been in before, so this was a positive. Cabin Staff were also excellent,
Ports of Call - these were very good, it was the best thing on this cruise, porto rico was lovely, st thomas was great, and Grand Turks was just gorgeous as was Bahamas.
sorry but thats all on the good points,
This shipped rocked so much - and i am not talking about the entertainment! we had movement on this ship worse then ever before - even the staff commented on this, i am sure there was something wrong with it - i had 2 nights of no sleep, due to the rocking, not only up and down but sideways too!! this was awful, and ruined the cruise, i never get sea sick, but i was not well on this one. So if you get seasick stay away - unless there was a problem and they have it sorted, but am writing to Carnival, so will keep you posted on response.
Entertainment - i never seen so much rubbish before, the waitors in the dining room did a better job dancing and singing! it was pathetic, worse i have ever seen on a cruise liner, they have a dancer called troy, who didn't act like he wanted us there! and as for their Cruise Director Butch - what a nightmare, Kyle however, assistant cruise director was great - he should take his place! Do not bother seeing shows,
the pool areas were busy and over crowded, noisy, even the adults end, it may be that it was because there were sooo many Americans on there - sorry, but they are really loud, we were the only English! Canadians were lovely.
The ship was overcrowded constantly, queueing everywhere - noisy, it was awful, such a relief to stop off at ports!
did not see Captain at all on Formal nights, unlike other cruise liners!
Customer Service staff were very very good (sorry forgot a good point)
Excursions were ok, we only did 1, not badly priced.
on the last day, we had some sort of coffee like granules come out of the stern, and we got covered all around the pool area, it went in the pool, whirlpools, on our clothes! i am not sure what happened there, but staff didn't seem stirred by it, just commented the water and pools get cleaned out on Saturdays!
All in all, i believe this liner to be for Americans to be honest, they would need to work on alot if they want english to use it, when they come over to europe! especially entertainment
oh another good thing - the photographers, lots of back drops for photos, and we got some great ones!
i really don't know what they can do to improve things, its just too busy!
also, we had to wait 2 hours at Bahamas to get the boat to shore, the tender system was rubbish - 2 hours in a theatre, with troy, who talked to us like he didn't care, like children, but yet again Kyle rescued things and tried his best. well done Kyle - change ships and be a cruise director
good luck if you choose this liner and you are english!
Quality of Food3
lido deck - great choice of food, just tooo busy! queuing for ever!
Entertainment1
rubbish, saw 3 shows, but couldn't cope with it anymore

Staff3
the staff in the dining room and customer services, photographers, bars were excellent - entertainment staff need working on! especially the rude one troy
Children's Facilitiesn/a

Interesting, but sad fact number 215: If the ship is rocking up and down, its called 'pitching'. If its rocking sideways its called 'rolling'. Say goodnight Gracie.

Well, I am neither an American nor English. But having cruised on carnival beofre, I can certainly relate to what Clark had to write. Carnival is definitely suited to people who want to have fun, enjoy, scream, overeat and the list goes on... so i guess Americans would feast on it. English are more used to relaxation/ diet control/ dressing up and looking good, etc.... But it is very clear: This is a cruise for the Americans and it flows out of America.. so why should they change just for a few Brits!

The food was great, the service was fantastic, the cabins were the biggest and the cabin staff were good too. The customer service staff were good, and you liked the destinations. So what about the cost of excursions, and the photographers, regular areas of criticism on this site? No, they were OK too. But OMG! There were AMERICANS on an American ship sailing out of er...America! Oh, and the ship rocked when out at sea. HORROR!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!! I never thought I would come across a complaint funnier than the Monty Python Dead Parrot Sketch. Well now I have! Thanks for brightening up my morning.

oh how sarcastic, i guess you haven't cruised on RCI or other american ships, also you obviously have been on such small liners, that you feel the rocky ocean - i have cruised many many times, and the route we did, once stopped at points of call - i asked other passengers on other cruise liners that had done the same route, and they had NO movement what so ever. So stop being childish, and go and get some experience on real cruise lines like RCI and Celebrity.

Have to say people like Hoskins put me off writing a review. (Have written a few) disagree by all means, But Silly sarcasm Is a absolute pain. I have not cruised carnival, because a lot of people have commented on the noise and the fact that your not left alone to relax etc. Have cruised on American lines princess and celebrity and found them great and not too loud. But will not cruise carnival because I enjoy some peace. As for the weather perhaps the ship is older and not able to cope with the rough seas as other of the larger ships?
