This was the first time we had cruised with Carnival, so everything was new to us.
We arrived at the cruise terminal via a shuttle laid on by Dollar from the airport. Once at the terminal we where checked through and on the ship within an hour.
The ship to us was impressive, the lobby and the glass elevators where awesome, and this with the ‘Greek Styling’ of the ship made it fabulous.
We had chosen our cabin with a balcony 8204 and it was perfect, some have complained of noise from above, but we didn’t hear anything.
Katuk our room steward knocked and introduced himself and he was perfect. Our room always had ice, he in fact was brilliant, always happy and smiling.
The Lido buffet was only a floor up and there where so many things to choose from at lunch time. There was a Deli sandwich making station, as ever burgers/hotdogs/pizza, a carvery station, Chinese, plus a ‘Theme of the Day’, which could be Italian, Indian , Caribbean, and American.
At Dinner, in Truffles (this was our highlight on the food), we where seated at a table of 6, and as we are from the UK, we knew that we would be in the minority. Out of 2400 passengers there where only 40 from the UK, but we had a table of 6 from the UK. We where surprised at first by this, but it did make sense, and we got on amazingly well.
Our waiters Elvis & Gaston where superb. Nothing was too much and if you wanted two of everything they would sort that out for you.
The maitre d’ in Truffles Yousef announced ‘Shooooowtimmmmme’ nearly every night and it was a laugh to see all the staff enjoying themselves.
We ate in the alternative dining room (Golden Fleece) and this was well worth it. I would encourage everyone to make a visit, as the food is exquisite and the service matched the food.
I had read previous that people thought that the Cruise Director was ‘over the top’.
Our Cruise Director this time was John Heald. John is a larger than life character, but I must say that he made the cruise for us. Nothing was over stated by him, the information given was what you needed, and nothing was sold. John wanted you to relax and have fun, and we certainly did.
The opening nights Welcome Show was fantastic. It was audience participation and a general giggle, but when he got a gent up on stage called Dick Little, it made the night.
It continued a couple of nights later with a talent show and John’s ‘Good Night Story’, I would encourage Carnival to put this on You Tube as it is hysterical..!!
The main ‘singer and dance’ shows that we seen where very good and energetic, but it was the memory of John being ‘ridden’ in his ‘Good Night Story’ that will remain with us. I imagine that John’s bruises will remain with him..!!!
On the ports off call, we booked all our trips independently of Carnival and did not have any issues what so ever.
The only issue is Roatan, The ship did not spend long enough there, and this is a beautiful island. We believe that Carnival is going to change the amount of time the ship stays on the island once their own cruise dock is open.
To sum up, this was a fantastic trip, on a fantastic ship, with a superb crew and great passengers.
ps John Heald is Carnival's Senior Cruise Director. He was born in Liverpool and home is Southend...
