Having worked as a tour bus driver in Europe for over 20 years, I thought I knew a bit about the travel industry's offerings. I was persuaded to cruise for the first time in February 2009 and was quite surprised at how impressed I was with being a 'packaged' holidaymaker. I had read a lot about the cruise industry but went with a fairly open mind but have to say that I'm hooked.

The prospect of a full week on a ship with only three ports of call did not particularly excite me but it turns out it wasn't enough. I grew to feel part of life on the ship and became more at home as each day passed. I have to say that Carnival have everything down to a tee and the whole experience was very pleasing. Sure there was a strong commercial theme to the running of the ship/cruise but this did not take away from the feeling of being thoroughly well looked after.

I now understand the attraction of cruising and will hopefully be trying an Eastern Med cruise during 2010 (though I think I will travel overland to Venice instead of flying low-cost - don't want to pay more for the luggage than the flight!!!).

Welcome Joseph! You have joined the world of cruise lovers and long may you enjoy this newfound (for you!) mode of travel! What a hardy traveller you are in flying all that way for a 7 night cruise!!! Before you decide to choose the 'cruise only' option, I would suggest that you check the cruise line air arrangements first. Many cruise lines do actually use scheduled flights where the checked baggage allowance is quite reasonable! I flew British Airways on my last cruise and the allowance was 23kg from memory! Low cost airlines allowance is generally 15kg ( which you have to pay for on Ryan Air). Do also check the Airline's policy and price for being overweight! Just be sparing when you buy gifts/souveniers!!! Alternatively, cruist to/from a UK port!!!
