I spent over an hour earlier this evening composing a review only to have it obliterated when I tried to post it.
Despite being denied the opportunity of describing my BacktoBack on C Glory starting 27 February 2011 as a special occasion, it was really Special.
The first 7 days was John Heald's Bloggers' Cruise BC4. For the uninitiated, John Heald, an Englishman is Carnival's Senior Cruise Director & a great entertainer who attracts many thousands of contributors to his Blog site on the Internet & with whom I had cruised twice previously.
From the moment I embarked on C Glory I felt part of a big family of like minded cruisers despite most of them being from the USA. During the 7 days of the Bloggers' cruise we attended many special events, including 2 English afternoon Teas, Superstar (specialist Karaoke), Blackbeards' castle outing in St Thomas, Bloggers only Slot Tournament to name but a few.
John H had enlisted the services at the Piano Bar of Ron Pass a terrific pianist, vocalist & unconscious comedian who wowed the droves of guests who were attracted to his venue every night. He is the best I have ever heard on my 21 cruises & on at least 3 occasions the proceedings continued until 2.am.
Not only were the bloggers entertained by John H's excellent humour, we received various mementos of our trip including, inscribed T-shirt, cap & zippered tote bag plus a photo album. I made a great many new friends from many walks of life from all over the USA & Canada & I hope to see them on BC5 in 2012. I missed them all on week 2.
However, I must sing the praises of Carnival for allowing me to experience 2 adventures in the Western Caribbean in ports of call I had never previously visited.
The first was in Belize where my group was whisked directly by catamaran from the ship to the Barrier Reef (second in size to the Aussie one) to snorkel with an amazing array of fish & coral, passing by secluded mangroved mini islands on our journeys to & from the site.
The second was in Isla Roatan, Honduras where I had the privelege of snorkelling with the dolphins. Having taken part in a dolphin encounter previously in Tortola, I was a little worried that I might find this an anti-climax. How wrong I proved to be! This is a Must for anyone who is a confident swimmer & wants to interact with nature's most friendly & intellegent mammals. To snorkel freely with these beautiful creatures lets you escape from the stresses of the rat race & feel part of a huge ocean where there is no rush hour rage.
Back on shore Roatan is clean & unaffected & there is no hassle from the local inhabitants. I would return there any time & spend a few days in this Central american paradise.
As for C Glory, captain, officers, cabin staff, casino staff & every other member of the crew were simply the best!
