In October 2009 we took a cruise to the Eastern Mediterranean on the Azamara Quest. After cruising mainly on larger ships we were very pleased to take in the cosy and intimate atmosphere of a smaller vessel. No queuing to get off the ship for excursions and no long lines to get into the dining room. The ship was beautiful in design and decor, discreet but luxurious and the cabin was spacious and well appointed. The butler/cabin steward was helpful and friendly and there was always a fresh vase of flowers in the cabin. Open dining was a great plus for us and it was just a matter of turning up and being allocated a table right away. The food was the best we have had on any ship and the presentation of the food a real delight. There was always the option to eat at a speciality restaurant for a small extra charge and the meals there were quite amazingly good. The service in the restaurants was efficient and cheerful.
The itinerary took us from Rome to Turkey taking in Istanbul overnight and several Turkish ports as well as Chios in Greece and Alexandria. A well chosen itinerary full of interest and history. The excursions were informative and efficient in comfortable coaches and good guides.
We had become members of Cruise Critic and the ship organised a getogether at the start of the trip which meant we got to know other people from the start and there was always someone to meet up with for a chat or a drink or a game of Bridge as a result of that.
The entertainment was not as high key as on the larger ships but nontheless we enjoyed what there was and there was plenty of music in the lounges and bars in the evenings. The atmosphere on board was of elegance and relaxation, just the thing for our age group. There was a beautful library well stocked with books.
Altogether the trip was well planned and well organised and we would definitely do the whole thing over again!
