The country club atmosphere really does exist on the Azamara Journey, this coupled with extremely friendly staff make for a great combination.
The advantages of a smaller yet perfectly formed ship certainly demonstrates that you don't have to treat the paying guest as cattle to make a profit.
OK the cabins are not the biggest however your own "butler" who in our case came with a readymade smile combined with a very attentive service more than make up for this.
The main downside to the Azamara experience is as I am sure been commented on before is the EXTORTIONATE price of drinks, OK for all you out there who say counting the cost is uncouth you might be correct BUT even the worlds richest do not like be left with the feeling that they are paying over the odds just because they can afford it.
In summarising:- a great small ship which has got the basics right, but take a full wallet.

Edwards, glad you enjoyed the journey, my wife and I sailed on the Quest last July and loved it. As for the price of drinks, I agree they were not cheap but if I was in a top class hotel on land I would expect to pay those prices. Also my wife and I realised after the cruise that we never saw anybody get noticeably drunk and the alcohol related banter was always of a good nature and very civil. Had the alcohol been cheaper people may have been inclined to consume more, which has an impact on behaviour, though I would hastily add that the standard of passenger on Azamara is generally at the higher end so loutish behaviour caused by alcohol would be extremely unlikely. Maybe its no harm that the alcohol prices are a little high and possibly influences people to have a few less...moderation and all that!!

Are you implying that high prices for alcoholic drinks (with additional extortionate service charges) are a good thing and passengers should be grateful to Carnival for this initiative as a means of ensuring good behaviour?

Extortionate is a little OTT, I think. To answer the first part of your question, Yes its no harm, you are far less likely to attract a crowd that wants to run amok while bingeing on cheap booze. As for the 2nd part, I am glad I have the option to take a cruise on a very nice and civil cruise ship with a really superb atmosphere and friendly environment, same as if I was to visit a 4 or 5* boutique hotel, where the prices for alcohol would be the same as on Azamara.
