This was our second cruise with AMA Waterways, last time on the Danube and this time on the Rhine. As before the cruise was excellent. We had the same cabin as last time on the deck just above the waterline which was quite adequate. All went well until the last day when we heard about the Icelandic volcanic eruption which meant that when we arrived in Basel we would not be able to fly home. Unfortunately AMA were not very helpful with our onward journey arangements as we had only booked the cruise part of the journey through our agent and not the flights. Very much a lesson to be learned here as we were stranded in Europe for nearly a week having to look after ourselves and make alternative arrangements to get home. However, after a lot of keeping in touch with BA, they eventually paid for everything apart from our alternative transport home, having already re-imbursed us with the flight home. Now have travel insurance to cover volcanic ash problems!!
Quality of Food
Only one restaurant which was fine for a ship of this size and the best thing was we could sit anywhere! We had free flowing wine for dinner every night.

Sorry you didn't get the information you wanted but to be honest with you, after all we went through, apart from the photos we took, it was very difficult to remember everything we did and where we went to. I take it that you weren't affected by the volcanic ash problems as believe you me, it was NOT fun and proved to be VERY expensive which we had not budgeted for and it was 8 months later before we were reimbursed by BA as our insurance company refused to pay up. If you want to read up on the cruise, can I suggest you go onto the AMA Waterways site and this will tell you the day to day programme. The reason I have only now submitted a review was to take up www.cruise company's new offer of a book on European cruising.

I have 2 issues with your 'review'. First - where is the review of the cruise? I wanted to know about river cruising and what you saw and did travelling down the Rhine. I really did not want old news about the disruption caused by volcanic ash. Second - we are nearly at April 2011 (more tax returns) why therefore are you 'reviewing' your difficulties getting home from a year ago ?
