Lofts At Sea!

The world’s largest cruise ship – Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas – will have loft apartments, an amiptheatre, as well as the very first carousel at sea. The ship will sail in the Caribbean from December 2009 and has many brand new features on the vessel which include a 43 ft. rock-climbing wall and a zip-line suspended nine decks above the Boardwalk.

The two-level, twenty-eight loft suites will be the highest accommodations sailing the oceans and will have floor-to-ceiling windows. Oasis of the Seas will carry 5,400 passengers; have sixteen decks, and seven themed areas including a Boardwalk, Central Park and The Royal Promenade.

Bookings for this cruise ship open on 3rd September 2008 and it will begin sailing from its home port of Port Everglades from 12th December 2009 – running nineteen consecutive seven-night cruises to the Eastern Caribbean. Then, from 1st May 2010, the massive ship will alternate this itinerary with a Western Caribbean schedule.

Why stop at a picnic lawn? Why not have a deck landscaped as the surface of the moon and then passengers can don space-suits and have “moon-walks” at sea? Or build a series of caves in the hull complete with artificial stalactites and stalagmites so that everyone can go potholing at sea? Or have full-scale trains running on a circular track around the perimeter of a mega cruise ship for the enjoyment of anoraks among the passengers? The possibilities are endless, aren’t they? As for me, while cruise line executives continue to dream up activities that are best done on land, I’ll continue to travel on smaller ships that are a million nautical miles removed from these new Las Vegas resort ships.

I hear what you say but the absolute fact is that there are more complimentery comments about these new larger ships than any others. Apart maybe from the 6 star luxury all inclusive offerings that give you a private yacht experience. Terry Warner
