MSC Eliminate Fuel Charges
MSC Cruises have now eliminated fuel surcharges for cruises departing on or after 1st April 2009. The charge will not be levied on new bookings for cruises sailing from that date onwards and the accounts of guests already booked on these cruises will be adjusted to remove the surcharge. If fuel prices remain stable going into the New Year, the line has announced it will drop the fuel surcharge on cruises departing from 1st January to 31st March 2009. "I said a year ago when we were compelled to implement the fuel surcharge on our cruise fares that we looked forward to the day when fuel prices would stabilise at a level that would allow us to eliminate this supplement. I am delighted to announce that that day has arrived," says Richard E. Sasso, president and CEO of MSC Cruises (USA), Inc. "At MSC Cruises, we believe our guests should not have to wait another year to benefit from the recent drop in oil prices," Sasso adds. "That's why we are making this new policy effective starting in April of next year and will apply it earlier if possible."

I too am pleased at the news that MSC have eliminated fuel surcharges on cruises already booked for May departure. I am eager to learn answers, from MSC Ltd, regarding some pertinent questions.
1) Will we receive written confirmation of qualification and when?
2) In Feb '09 will we be asked to pay original price for cruise or the reduced price, resulting from the elimination of the fuel surcharge elimination?
3) If the former method, then presumably MSC intend to either offer on-board credit for the amount?
It would be nice to know if anyone has this information (incl. MSC) and can share it with me!!

We are cruising with MSC in May to the Baltic and are pleased that the possibility of a fuel surcharge has been removed. Good to know that we have booked witha company who will not try and extract the max from clients. Well done
