Costa Europa's last two scheduled sailings for Costa Cruises have been cancelled after a collision with a pier in Sharm El Sheikh which left three crew members dead. The cancellation will allow for crucial repairs on the ship. Thomson Cruises is to charter the 1,488-passenger ship from next month. Costa said that the repairs will be completed within 30 days in Palermo.
There was damage to a watertight compartment of the ship’s hull. Some crew cabins and parts of the engine room were also damaged. As a result, the line has cancelled the 4th March 4 and 22nd March sailings and is working to re-book passengers on other sailings or provide full refunds. The accident happened on Friday as the ship was docking at the Red Sea port in strong winds.

Have just read on travel.sky.com/inspiration/blogs/Cruise-Diary under Steve Reed\'s Cruise Diary Friday 19 March 2010 that the Dream will be joining fleet on time- but the launch party has been cancelled. The article is half way down the page under No Party for the Thomson Dream, he mentioned he will be on board.

Ship's last reported position indicates that it is not taking the shortest ( as the crow flies ) route to Palermo assuming it is still calling there first. Originally that was its presumed destination based on Costa announcements.
