Founded in 1969 as a partnership of three prominent Norwegian shipping companies, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. was the first company to launch ships designed for year-round Caribbean cruising. In 1999, RCCL launched Voyager of the Seas, the first of another new ship class and the industry’s first 142,000-ton cruise ship. It came with cruising’s first climbing wall and ice rink.
