Q: Summer med cruise - too hot to handle?
We're thinking of taking a Med cruise in high summer on the Grand Princess but I'm worried it will be too hot to handle. I've heard there's not enough shade or enough space on decks. Is there any shade and does the movement of the ship create enough of a sea breeze? Shoudl we opt for a balcony cabin or is their enough room on deck?

We have just come back and the temp was 30's to 40's . There were not enough beds in the shade , or seats and they went very fast. Caribe deck balconies are 1/2 sun 1/2 shade so would be your best bet.

Just back from the Med Cruise, and we had some really hot days. We had cabin on Caribe Deck and it was great. We had an overhang from the deck above, so we could sit in the sun, shade or as I tended to do, shade for top half and legs in sun. The balcony was well worth the extra cost as we made good use of it, breakfast, afternoon and a nice drink watching all the glorious sunsets.

The med in high summer can reach temps of 33-38degrees. If you have the Money then opt for a Balcony Cabin as the are times when it can be a bonus particularly on sea days. shade can always be found on the Promrnade deck You may also find that any shaded space is taken up by people not wanting to sit out in the searing heat. Inside cabins and those with a window, even though larger than on some ships can still be quite claustrophobic. My sister has just come back from the Med Last Saturday on Grand Princess and had wonderful time. But she wishes she should have gone for a Balcony cabin and the temp in Rome on the day she visited was 41degrees. So take very high Factor sun cream and high stars or superior rating for UV/UVA ,I usually double my factor from 20 to 40, and take a hat. The breeze that comes across the deck will be warm and that in it's own will burn you. So go ahead and bok your cruise and enjoy taking into consideration al the points that I and other people have mentioned and I am sure you will have a great time.

I would imagine the ship would be the coolest place around. Most Med cruises are very port intensive and you would be doing your sightseeing under a blazing sun. Particularly around some of the historic sites there is often little or no shade. If this concerns you (and I sympathise) it would probably be better to postpone the trip to September or October if you can.

There's lots of shade on the Princess ships - the hard part on a busy ship is usually finding a space in the sun, not the shade! Yes, the pace of the ship on sea days produces a breeze, but you'll mostly be in port during the days in the hotter parts of the Med, anyway. I'd always opt for a balcony if it's within your budget as it gives you lovely, private space which you'll particularly enjoy morning and evening. Break fast, lunch on sea days or an evening drink on your balcony - you just can't beat it!
