If you want a good cabin location/grade. Then the only option is to specify this when you book and pay the relevant price. As for drinks on P&O, I have travelled many times with them, and can honestly say I have never found the drinks prices to be extortionate. Pub prices yes, although no C&E duty to pay they still need to pay the staff wages and make a profit, don't forget there are always waiters to seve your drinks at your seat, something you don't get in a normal pub... Upgrades 'apparently' happen occassionally but the only realistic way to upgrade is to pay for a better cabin. Regarding price of drinks on P&O they are similar to a very nice pub/hotel - so they are not extortionate - albeit that they do not pay duty etc but the bottom line is they are the same as a 4* hotel which is what the Oriana is. ...... Grumps PS ... P&O drinks prices may be cheaper than some of the 'American' lines but P&O cruise prices are generally more expensive to start with. So - you end up paying much the same overall. (These cruise lines are far from daft - they're all chasing the buck one way or another.)

P&O drinks prices are comparable to UK pub prices and certainly considerably less than American cruise lines. P&O discontinued their wedding anniversary package last year so now you only get what you pay for..Brian

As 'Drake' says, too many people on cruises are celebrating special occasions for free upgrades to be dished out like this. If you want a good cabin, you need to pay for it. Alcohol isn't cheap on most cruise lines, but the cruises are remarkably good value for what you get and they do need to make profits somehow.

They may offer upgrades but you would have to speak to your travel agent and it may also be dependant on type of cabin you had. As for drinks prices, if your friend ws on any of the american owned ship, Princess, RCI, Cunard, Holland America, Celebrity the all add on a 15% tax. This does not happen with P&O. Hope this helps

When you are onboard, you will see that a lot of people have booked a cruise to celebrate a special occasion (including 3 weddings when we were on Oriana recently) and P&O couldn't really consider gving every one of them an upgrade. The best, and usually only, way to get a better cabin is just to book one. In terms of bar prices, we don't think they're bad at all on Oriana, but if they're too expensive for your budget, you can always drink less!!!
