Be warned!! Our first cruise was on the Oriana a few years ago for 4 nights we are now about to embark on our 6th and have already booked a 7th. Cruising can be additive! 3 nights is a great way to see if it agrees with you ( and I'll be surprised if it doesn't)!
Don't worry about tipping etc all is explained with the info they give you in your cabin.
Regarding table size, its a bit of a lottery. We always request a table for 8. We've only been unlucky with our table companions once, all the other times we've made some really good friends. The majority of cruisers are friendly people and aren't strangers for long.

Hi. P&O recommend you tip in total about £3.50 per day and I assume this applies across all their cruise types. I understand you tip in sterling on the last day and share out the daily tip amongst the envelopes which are provided in your cabin. We are cruising next month and it will be our first time travelling with P&O so if I have misunderstood I am sure more experienced cruisers will correct me! Regards Julia.

As previously stated, mini-cruises attract stag and hen parties. If you are a party animal this is not a problem. If you are hoping for a quiet three days it could be annoying. You could consider a short cruise, say to Norway, then you get one sea day out and one back and a different port every day. Good luck with whatever you choose. Judith

Yes I think mini-cruise are a good start. 3 Nights are more is ideal. Two nights is too short to settle into shipboard life. Howver by the end you will wish you had booked a week or two! ;-)

we went on a 3 night taster cruise and it really wasn't long enough! The first night was the night we sialed, we had 2 days in 2 ports and then disembarked at 7-8am the following day. No time to actually get the feel of the ship. Also price wise, we could have had a 7 day cruise for not much more money. If you are really unsure of cruising go for it, but if you are fairly certain you will enjoy it go for a bvit longer. Ours merely wetted our appetites's and left us feeling "cheated" as we had so little time.
Hope this helps

I agree with everything Peter has said (twice over!). However, in the past, some people have commented that mini/taster cruises do sometimes attract stag or hen parties on board. Bear this in mind if you do come across any - and do not let this aspect put you off cruising, you won't see these party people on normal week+ cruises. Enjoy.

Short taster cruise makes a lot of sense; you are not laying out to much money just in case you do not like it. If you really do not like it you will be in a very select small group. Everyone I have recommended cruises to just don't want to take a land based holiday ever again. I have just booked a 4 night cruise on the Queen Victoria as I have never been Cunard before, and this way I can see if I like the line. As far as tipping goes you will receive recommended minimum amounts for each person, it works out about £7 per person per day. As far as table size goes, I personally like a large table; I even managed to find someone who I get on with. If you are shy ask for a table for 2. If you like a bit of company, ask for a table for 4. The choice is yours. If you have any more queries can I guide you to the search button above the messages? P&O is probably a good middle of the road British orientated ship for your first cruise.
