Have just returned from Amazon Cruise on Artemis. Yes it is very humid, nevertheless well worth seeing, one has to take pot luck with the weather. We did take Malarone tablets to be on the safe side, at least two people from our group had a rash presumed to be caused by same. Depends how afraid one is of getting malaria, we erred on the side of caution. Lots of Deet applied very regularly may well deal with the problems. Not all our group of 25 bothered and they have now been back for nearly three weeks. Husband and self felt it was well worthwhile travelling the Amazon, we didn't do any of the excursions but those that did enjoyed them immensly. We didn't feel fit enough this year, otherwise would also have taken at least two of them

We have just returned it was wonderful cant get much better. We where advised to take malaria tablets we took doxycycline which where the cheaper option but I had a reaction to the sun and had to spend days in the shade so I advise you to take the more expensive option. In whole we would go again tomorrow . We had a restricted view on the ship but that was no problem as we could still see out. The trips where wonderful around the Amazon but did not book much around the caribbean as you can take a taxi and do it yourself.

We are booked on The Artemis Amazon Cruise For Jan 2010 and have been reccomended Malarone Malaria Tablets .They are only available on Prescription.I understand that there are few if any side effects. The cheapest source I have found on the Net is Chemist Direct where they are priced at £2.25 per tablet .We reckon for a 15 day cruise 13 tablets each will be requied.

It might be best to check, but I think with Malaria tablets you have to start them a week before you go and two weeks when you get home, Chech with your DR, i know it used to be that
