Norwegian Gem

In keeping with the line’s trendsetting Freestyle Cruising, enabling passengers to dine where, when, and with whom they wish, the ships have up to 11 different restaurants offering different menus every night—the most dining options of any other ship in the North American market. For the restaurants that require reservations, it’s wise to reserve early. Cagney’s is particularly popular. Checking availability has been made easy with NCL’s new electronic system. Seventeen screens, placed strategically around the ship, show the status of seat availability and/or waiting time in each restaurant. Passengers who select a specific restaurant are given a beeper that buzzes them when their table is ready. Café offers “action stations” preparing made-to-order omelets, waffles, fruit soups, ethnic specialties, and pasta, as well as an extensive buffet and grills, including hamburgers, fish and chips, potpies, and wok dishes. The ship also has an outdoor grill, an ice-cream bar, and a coffee shop, plus 24-hour room service.
