Greenock is better avoided in my opinion. Take a taxi. Your friend willl keep you right in Glasgow.

Is that Wilmington, USA? Take a taxi to Greenock station then take the train. If your friend has transport it may be better if they met you at Greenock as there is some fine scenery to be seen just a short drive from Greenock. The views across the Firth of Clyde on a sunny day are quite stunning. GreenocK itself is pretty industrial but the area around is scenic. Glasgow has its attributes but on a single day visit you wont be able to see the best the city has to offer however the shopping is good and there are many fine restuarants. Hope you enjoy whatever you decide to do.
